Hmmmm ... looks like a very strong 8. The upper-left corner doesn't look like 10 material to me. Also, the two corners on the right may be holding it back, but it's difficult to determine given the angle of the shot.

If you can see whites on the corners in this set from the front, its not going to be a 10. Bottom right...I see some whiteness. Its still definitely sharp, but that corner touched something at some point.

I don't really know this issue, but looks like it might have snow and/or a scratch in upper left crowd area
And not sure if it is a reflection or not but there is a faded area on card on right side lower half. Im guessing a reflection

The other issue is that his shorts are too short.

Yep, I apologize, I was not looking as good as I should and do see the slightly touched bottom right corner.

If you go to ebay right now and look up 1986 fleer Charles Oakley PSA 10 which was a Recent Grade , you will see the Huge Difference between my Card and theirs , and no this is not an Indictment on the Seller of that Oakley card , i am simply Pointing out the Conditions of the Cards in Question where one received an 8 and the other a 10, Notice the Oakley Has Bad edges along with a more noticeable white tip touch on the Right corner , the obvious fray along the left edges , the off centering of the Black lines into the yellow part of the Card , i have Been a Collector of 1986 Fleers for years now and have Subbed Many to be Graded over the years , but when Prime examples of this happen , it makes you wonder , how can that Card get graded a 10 , when its obvious it does not warrant it , could it be the Vendor who sends in those Cards who gets Preferential treatment? and i was under the impression and correct me if i am wrong , but in order for a card to be deemed a 10 , are not more then 1 grader suppose to validate it ? it gets Frustrating

I looked at the Oakley, I agree 100% that your Bird 8 is nicer than the Oakley 10. I wouldn't even crack it out, I'd send it back and ask them why it is an 8.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

In defense of the Oakley, that left edge appears to be a rough cut which PSA sometimes seems to not grade down at all since its the true manufacturing cut and how it left the factory.

with that said, of course i'd like to have a clean cut like your Bird.

I've never agreed with the rough cut being OK and I don't buy them. If printing defects are cause for downgrades at PSA, then so too should rough cuts.

The bottom right corner of your Bird looks worse than the Oakley. Additionally your top left corner is not that sharp either. PSA will overlook the rough cut, I have had several 10s with that exact same rough cut. However comparing your cards to over-graded examples on eBay is an exercise in futility.

With the bottom right corner of the Bird at best you are looking at a 9 but most times an 8 so I would say it was fairly graded. It is easy to overlook the flaws in a card when so many other aspects are nice (centering & edges).

I like the rough cut on issues like 70s OPC where cards out of the pack came that way and many smooth cut cards are sheet cut. I don't care as much for other issues with the rough cut but it's certainly less of a detraction than OC or PD.

Back in the day a rough cut was treated as a defect. Thus no RC could be called mint.

At best we called them NM right out of the pack. With all that said, PSA allows it and it's

standard is what we go by. (PSA graded that is)

    Good for you.

  • As others have said, crack and resubmit. However, I recommend you review some SUPER high res scans of the card for flaws before you crack it; I have found in the past I can find flaws on a 600 DPI scan that are hard to see with the naked eye.
