BST: do you look at stuff for sale with hundreds of posts?

lkeigwinlkeigwin Posts: 16,892 ✭✭✭✭✭
Maybe it's just me. But when I browse BST I'm turned off by sellers who have several hundred posts to wade through, stuff originating a year or more ago, pages and pages of TTP, in order to find what's new and interesting.

Am I alone?

Please, let the old threads expire and start fresh ones. Copy-and-paste if you must. But show us what's available today without weeding through a ton of miscellany.

I find it harder to figure out what is going on and am more likely to avoid them.

    So, agreed.

Or just keep the updated list in the first post, removing sold items.

But then, don't most sellers actually do this already?

Yes, if I have seen something of interest from that seller before. No, if I have looked and found nothing.

I can see both sides, using the old thread, or starting new. For potential buyers with a good memory, it makes little difference. I tend to do the same with fresh threads, if it is a seller that tends to list stuff that I might be interested in, I check it out. If it is seller whose listings I have looked out and found nothing, I skip. An old thread shows that a person is established as a BST seller.

In any case, one public complaint is unlikely to change a seller's habits. As long as the listings follow the forum guidelines, I don't have much of a problem. I would tend to lean towards using the old seller threads, because it is easier for me to spot those as long time sellers vs. newbie sellers.

I use the search feature to look for what I want.

    Unless I'm just shopping.

    I usually start a new listings after 20/30 TTT's.
Though, the first post and title is always the updated.
I have seen the same happening in other members' listing.

I'm really confused. Most sellers put everything in the first post and keep it updated. Why would anyone wade through pages of ttt's?

    Not hardly.

There are BST threads I haven't opened in years.

    I'm surprised.

The first thing to check is the edit date.

if it has been a while since it has been updated, then that is to be avoided.

If the list is updated, just inquire as you would if it were only a few days old and aks if XXX is still available or if there is a line for it already, etc. (business as usual)

I used to think...wow 100's of posts must be a popular seller with lots of good stuff.

Now I think wow...been there forever, must be same old stuff no one wants and I dont bother.

Thank you for creating this thread. I had no idea people thought like this. I have always edited my thread and kept the original thread clean of any clutter when trying to sell something. I have only bumped the thread when I was actively trying to sell something.

Based on this thread I will likely just create a fresh thread and copy anything relevant I need from my old stuff...no biggie.

In fact I might go post something in a few minutes. image A great toned 1945-Micro S in MS66....and maybe one or two other items. Stay tuned. image

I usually bump the same post a dozen or so times, then I give up on it and start another a few weeks/months later.

    I don't check those with 100+ posts.

But, I think I would be equally annoyed if people started a new BST post every day with the same items over and over.

There are a few threads I looked at a couple times and found them too confusing .
I never open BST threads from those posters anymore.

sometimes I look. sometimes I buy. I tried selling and trading, but some people NEVER buy, they don't want a TRADE and they don't want to "build" a relationship towards a common goal . So I typically stay away from there. Business on the street is better. Real people are the real deal. This is a playground while I wait for my coins to come back from the plastic factory.

Great post - no, you are certainly not alone.
If it has a '3' or higher in the Replies column, I generally skip it.....but again, I'm on multiple times per day, so I likely saw it when it was first posted. But for those with hundreds of Replies, even if it states it was edited recently, I'm probably not looking at it.

  • Well, it kind of depends on the situation. On one hand a post with many TTTs could mean the seller has just reedited the post to not cause clutter on the BST or it could mean the seller has stale inventory. At the same time it could also mean you will have a reliable transaction because most of those kind of threads will have someone chiming in saying "Great transaction with XXXX". In the end I don't mind regardless. If the title catches my eye I open it.

BST threads with more than about a 20 replies are invisible to me.

I'd guess the ones with over 100 replies are invisible to almost everyone.

I look at anything that strikes my interest. Somedays I don't have the time to see everything, and others I spend a good chunk of time going through the posts. It doesn't bother me to go though long BSD threads.
