Hurray for eBay sellers!

Just received this from eBay:
eBay is considering offering a form of "immediate pay" for auctions. Buyers would sign a one-time billing agreement that would give eBay permission to automatically collect payment once a bidder wins any future auction.
As a seller, how interested are you in eBay requiring bidders to sign a one-time billing agreement (i.e., "immediate pay") for auctions?
What do you sellers think?

I would not sign this, though, unless there was a way for me to decide payment method (ie. funds transfer or credit card) for each auction. Depending on the seller and the item, I consciously select credit card as my source of funds for some additional protection. I also wonder how they would handle multiple wins from the same seller who may offer shipping discounts.
Sellers could stick it to you with shipping with this new method.
48-72 hours for payment should be plenty of time for anyone to pay.
"Live everyday, don't throw it away"
But I pay differently all the time. Bill Me Later sometimes gives an extra 2% ebay bucks, on a high dollar I may want to use a CC...so I don't want to be required to pay one way every time.
This may be good 98% of the time, but again, I may not do it only because every now and then I want to delay payment for whatever reason.

<< <i>I wouldn't sign it either. If I win last minute I pay right away, but sometimes I may win an item or a few, and will bid on others from the same seller that end the next day or two. I do contact the seller to let them know so they can combine shipping and send together.

Agree 100%, plus as others have mentioned, I use different credit cards based on billing cycles.
<< <i>I generally pay quickly. However if I am obligated to this requirement I may not bid quite as often. BTW how about a requirement the card is shipped within 24 hours of payment received or buyer keeps the card and gets a refund. >>
I would happily oblige with instant payment for shipping within 24 hours. All day, all day, all day.
The seller would pay the PP $0.30 fee for each transaction. The buyer buys 10 items. Ebay charges only 1 shipping fee, free for each additional item. That would be a problem.

<< <i>My only problem is: What about combined shipping on multiple purchases?

DING DING DING! We have a winner! I think thats what ebay/PP want.
what if they offered the buyer an incentive (e.g. 2% discount)?

BUT
I do like the idea of putting in a 72 hour (or whatever timeframe you want) and then requiring some form of immediate payment....basically ENDING non-paying bidders.
I like giving customers some time to pay and allowing them the option to combine shipping. So far the system has worked great for me. Buyers always pay in the time stipulated by me (10 days) and I see no reason to change that."
It looks like it's a service the buyer chooses to participate in, not the seller. If a buyer doesn't want to participate then he can pay as normal. For a buyer it will be a popular thing to do, but a nightmare for sellers when buyers buy multiple item buyers and they automatically pay the full price with shipping for each item won. The 30 cent per payment PayPal transaction fee will be lost for each payment on additional items, and the seller will have to refund shipping overcharges on each additional item.
Once in a while I need the flexibility of a day or two to pay because I'm bidding on other auctions (and want to pay all at once) or I want the charge to hit on the next credit card cycle.
With an incentive and by making it opt in only, this could help clean up the NPBs. But if it is required of buyers without any incentive, I think it's a bad idea.
It wouldn't do anything to to help clean up NPB. People who pay will continue to pay whether they pay manually, or automatically with or without any incentive. People bred to be NPB won't opt in and will continue to be NPB. The only way a policy like this could help clean up NPB is to make participation mandatory and Ebay would never consider this as it would scare away both good and bad buyers.
