My Bobby Orr rookie has finally come home.

It's been gone for quite some time now. First it was sent to Florida to have Bobby sign it. Then it was off to PSA. So it was nice to finally receive it in the mail today. Here is a picture of the matching holograms.
One hologram is on the Great North Road COA, the other was affixed to the back of the PSA label. They have matching numbers.

And here is a picture of the front. I'm happy that it's finally encapsulated, because I was always a little nervous with it around the house
with three young boys.

Great North Road does a nice job. I did a 10 piece submission to them earlier this year. I tried to get them to cave on why they want so much for rookie cards. I don't think it's because they've sensed the market trend. It sounded to me like Bobby just doesn't like autographs on expensive cards. It was pretty odd when I talked to them. Yours came out great. Congrats!

WOW, that is an AWESOME piece. Did you crack that card out of a slab? If so, what was it graded.

Just because it's in a slab does not mean the 3 boys can play with it now!!!! LOL

Mike ... does he charge more for the Rookie Card? On the website it shows just one price ($120.00) for cards.

  • Awesome card even at that price.

This would or could be compared to having maybe a Mays or Aaron RC signed?

    Thanks for sharing!

Speaking of Aaron signatures, here is something I just picked up.

Two years ago, unbeknownst to me, Orr was at a Boston University fundraising event I attended in town. (I think I paid $25 to attend the event.) He was sitting at a table with a stack of 11x14's of his famous goal, signing any and all that anyone wanted. There was a bin next to him for anyone to donate to the BU student fund in exchange for a signed picture, but it wasn't a requirement or anything. (I think they purposely didn't announce his attendance, since they didn't want people bringing Orr items to be signed? Or maybe he was a last-minute addition? Who knows...)

I ended up with 3 pictures (1 to me, 1 to my dad, 1 not personalized) in exchange for a $10 donation, and he couldn't have been nicer. Even though it was in Boston, it wasn't your typically hockey crowd at the event, and for most of the time I was there, he had a handful of people going up to him at the table, but by no means was it a long line or anything.

Here's the one on my office at work now.....

Nice picture. Three for $10.00 ... sounds like something Willie Mays would do as well. image

  • Ron Blanchard informed me that Bobby Orr will only sign three or four rookie cards per year, thus the high asking price.
It's just GNR's policy. Either we accept it, or we don't.

If he sticks with that policy you have a GREAT investment.

From what I gather, it's not that he will ONLY sign 3-4/year. He'll sign 40 of them tomorrow if you'll pay $500/each for them. He's trying to make it cost prohibitive while maintaining secondary market scarcity.

Just another bump for a dang fine card. That's THE Orr that I'd like for my HOF signed rookie collection. The test issue. Simply sick!

Does anyone know if he signs the Legends serial numbered cards(Postcards) sold through the HHOF in the 90's. The guys that did that one had an arrangement for the living players to sign them for $10 each, but Orr did not participate. It took a long time to get them all back. I wish they had been able to keep going. Did the entire Pywowarcuk (sic) set from the 80's make it to postcard size?

    Thanks.

Just found out this morning I might be playing golf in a tournament with him in June (not with him personally, but same tournament, same time) Last time I played this tournament, both Bobby and Derek Sanderson played too. Got to chat a bit with the two of them as well. Hope he plays this time too. Such a down to earth, classy guy
  • Is this tournament up in New England ?

I just sent some more cards to Ron Blanchard in Florida. He said he has to ship them to Bobby up in Cape Cod.
So I'm guessing your golf tournament is somewhere in that area.
  • zep33zep33 Posts: 6,897 ✭✭✭
Yeah, at the Ridge Club on Cape Cod. He has a condo/house there. It's in Sandwich, MA
