Wow, the US Mint struck an interesting "what if Gobrecht was an engraver at the US Mint in 1816 coin," added a lot of wear to take away all that nasty "newness" and then sent it to Mr. Hardman. Oh to have such connections!
And now we are blessed with this "very unique" item via the eBay venue. It's good to be alive!

The Mint was a bumbling bureaucracy back then. He submitted this coin as a prototype in 1816 and it would be 10 years before the mint got back to him to have him do some of his early medal work, and another 10 before they'd let him reproduce the design again. The seller should at least use the period name of the CSNS and call it the Northwest States and Territories Numismatic Society.
