Anyone pay attention to some of the heritage coins auctioned lately? Seems like prices have been destroyed!
Here is a good example...
Heritage's photos stink on this one, I used to own it. I know what I paid for it back in 09. I know what I sold it for a couple of years later. The previous owner just took a huge hit on it.

Are you referencing the Internet auctions? If so, I don't pay much attention to those. Prices for the series have been on the
soft side for quite awhile, with the exceptions being high end low pop stuff and monster toners. It may not help that people
who collect green footballs can't participate...
<< <i>I think the 57 rosie is just as ugly as it gets. Sorry but it is and someone paid WAY to much for that one. I like roosevelts but the one your showing is nasty.... >>
Did you not read what he wrote? He owned it and said the HA pictures suck.....so, I don't think anyone would disagree with you that IF the coin, inhand, looks like the HA picture, it would be on the ugly side. However, since Erwindoc has owned it, and is intimating that it looks much nicer in hand (likely a nicely toned example), that it wouldn't be fair to just say the coin is "as ugly as it gets".
That said, this is one of the major problems using ANY auction house....if they don't take a good picture, a realistic picture, then anyone not seeing the coin in person is likely to way underbid what they may have. Lose-Lose-Win situation (consignor loses, auction house loses more fees for a higher realized price, bidder wins as they likely get a nice coin for much cheaper than otherwise).
It's why, when I have sold toned coins in the past on ebay, I have tried to take multiple shots....to show the different looks. The unflattering one so it is honest and doesn't get returned (most likely), and the realistic toned one showing what it looks like when tilted in the light or however brings out the toning. Of course, I can only do that on coins I have taken the pics of.....so, using anyone else, or their pics, can be a bit different.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I'm surprised it sold for that much. I have one that is ms67* but the toning is two sided monster toning, someone offered me $250 for it a while ago... guess I should have taken it.
