Photoraphy

So I've finally got the gear set I like and will be using, the problem is that I don't have the coins that require anything special to get photographed (i.e. beautiful toning). What would you suggest I do to get that experience?

If I were to go into a coin shop and ask to photograph some of their toners do you think they would let me? Again, I'm just trying to learn how to do it well.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

But a cheap proof set and use those coins for practice. If you can image a proof coin you can image anything

Start taking pics of pocket change.
When you accurately reproduce the image as in hand...then you can move on.

Start with pocket change. Use both heavily worn and brilliant uncirculated coins to get an appreciation for how they behave differently from each other. Do this over and over, varying the light a little so you can see the effect the lighting has. Then repeat the exercise by putting the coin in an AirTite or Kointain holder or under a piece of glass or plastic to simulate a slab. If you want to shoot a toner, get some colored Sharpies and colorize one of the BU coins. You don't need to start with slabbed toners.

Wax on, wax off, paint the fence, etc., as it were.
