I need a favor from Proof 25¢ collectors..........

I need somebody to look at their 1997 Proof quarters, if they don't mind. On the 4th feather up on the right side of the eagles right leg, that's on the left side of the coin as you are looking at it there is a tiny patch of brilliance showing through the frost. You have to look really close to see it and rotate the coin some but you can see it with your naked eye. I have seen this on both Proof 69 & 70 and on both clad & the silver issue, on PCGS and even ACG and even raw Proof Sets still in the original Mint holder. I have not looked at any ICG, NGC etc coins. At first it looks like a tick that broke the frost but I'm thinking possible die damage as it is a recurring thing. Any feedback greatly appreciated! image

I looked and couldn't find the spot you were talking about. Maybe only a certain amount of proofs were made with this "distinction". Maybe it's worth a lot of money?image

  • I looked, also. I have a PR69DCAM clad and silver, and I don't see the spot you are talking about on either of them.

  • Hey Dog,

I saw your question yesterday, but had to go to the bank to check. I have a silver PR69DCAM that I got from Mitch, and it has what you are talking about. The break in the frost, though minute, extends lightly onto the next two feathers up the leg that break to the right towards the chest. Hope this helps.

Hey that's real cool quattrocoins! The worst I have seen involves 2 feathers while some only look like a tiny scratch on 1 feather on some coins. Here's a scan of the 2 feather scratch-what is the brilliant shiny scratched looking area shows as darker spots in this scan. It was hard to scan.

Now to figure out what caused it.......

Thanks you to everyone that looked so far. image

    oops..forgot to load scan

  • NONE Here looked both on clad and silver in PCGS PR69DC holders. None on my whole proof sets either. (silver/Clad)
