My mom does collect coins. She started me on stamp collecting when I was 13. So now I buy her coins from the mint. In her collection. A 2006 raw ASE 20th Anniversary Set and a 2010 Raw Buchannan Gold Proof, plus various spouse medal sets, proof sets, etc. All moderns of course. She does have a raw 1898 Morgan Silver Dollar she has had for about 50 years.

My mom had a hoard of several thousand coins, pulled out of circulation in the 1950s and 60s.

My Mom does have a small collection of coins , there's a recent story concerning those. My Mom is 79 ,still does her own grocery shopping , goes to get her hair done etc. As kids we used to metal detect and buy old coins from the junk stores etc .. my Mom kept those we gave her , all different kinds , gold and silver and of all ages going back to the 16thC. She also kept jewelry and trinkets , all of these she kept in a small coin purse for decades.Recently she went to town , got her hair done and went to the store , there was an immigrant begger there at the door of the store and after passing him by she thought ...why not...and went back to give him what she could , a small but very kind gesture.
Well , when she next called me she was very upset , the purse was missing , the last time it was seen was when she gave the begger some change , it sure sounded like he had helped himself and pickpocketed an old lady , i was very upset , not about the coins but that somebody would do this to my Mother , id have strangled him if i could have got my hands on him...so to speak..i was fizzing mad.
Fast forward a few weeks , and she gets a call from the police station or she had called them , im not sure now , they had been so puzzled by the contents of the purse , they couldnt even identify the coins never mind the owner. The upshot was the purse had been handed in to the police completely intact , theres no way of knowing who handed it in i suppose but there it is.Needless to say that purse no longer leaves the house. It did restore my faith in humanity and had me looking at myself as i'd been quick to blame the unfortunate begger , i like to think it was he that handed it in but truth is it could have happened at any point inside the store too, could have been anyone.

My mom wore a belt around her neck. My job was to make sure it stayed there. The pay was commensurate with inexperience.
Basically means I got paid pretty good for my experiences on the job. Coins ? She taught me that if I take care of the cents, the dollars would take care of themselves. This was before eBay fees.

My mom has about 40 jars of coins. What I give her from my change each day. She cleans them all and I told not to do so, but she won't listen. Ha Ha.

My mom has never collected but she has been (still is) supporting my dad's hobby and she knows quite a lot about gold coins! image

I was thinking about collecting Moms for awhile, but my wife didn't like the idea.

My friends mom passed aways recently. She saved coins and now the sons have 5, plastic buckets full of coins, as I mentioned once before. Trying to convince them NOT, NOT to put them in the coin machine. They want to do something with the lot, but haven't for a few weeks now. I offered my help to either buy or just even to let them know what they have. No contact so far. Can't push them, and I wouldn't even know what to offer (est, by the pound, count it....?). She collected stamps too, which are just sitting there. Sure there must be some silver and important stamps set, and some really good finds if one had a year to go through it.

I just think of all the hard work that went into that. That's what Moms do.

My wife is doing the same for her kids as well (why I don't know because they try to steal some whenever they come to visit).
I got her a little silver plated heart shaped jewery case, and I put some silver or silver change in it from time to time.

I intent to have sold, squandered, and spent every last one of my before my time comes.

Anywho, thats a 'mom collector' story.
