What is the best vintage football set for 3G?

Hi..
I'm looking to buy a vintage football set (1972 or earlier)for around 3G... What sets and condition would be a good investment?
Thanks for all input!!

I personally would go for 1950 Bowman in PSA 5. There are 10 HOF RC's in the set which makes it a great investment IMO.

    Good timing on your part.

Mile High has FORTY-SEVEN complete sets 1972 and prior up for sale in their current auction!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

If investment is your main motive. I suggest Gold, Silver or Dollar cost averaging into a good Mutal Fund.

1972 Topps is an amazing set and is becoming extremely affordable in PSA 8 and 9. The 9's of the HOFers hold their value and have gone up in the past few years. The Hi Series 8's have come down greatly and the 9's are more affordable now that a lot of the wax has been available in the past 5-7 years.

I do agree with the 1950 Bowman set too.
  • Thanks for some great choices.. I've had my eye out for a nice '50 Bowman set but haven't seen one.. There is a straight psa 8 set of '72's on ebay right now for $6500.. Seems a little pricey to me! What would be a good price for a complete psa 8 of '72's ( 1-351)?

In 2006 I sold my straight PSA 8 with 24 9's including six of seven high series for $5700. $6500 is highway robbery.

Low series commons in psa 8 can be had for $3-4 each. The Staubach is a $500 in PSA 8. Nothing else crosses the $200 category in PSA 8. The 9's are where it is at. Now, if you venture into the set please note you will get addicted and upgrade to 9's on the stars because the set IS ICONIC!
  • I'm on the lookout for a psa 8/9 set of '72's.... I'm looking for all 1-351... Give me a holler if you are looking to sell or know of one for sale!

Gotta agree with the 72 set, slowly becoming my new favorite! I do wonder what a 57 set would run
lots of rcs. in that one and one hell of a great set,
