What Would this Raw 1986-87 MJ #57 Grade w/ PSA? Opinions Requested of 86-67 Fleer Collectors - High

I thank you in advance for your opinions and support.

I never do well on predicting grades from raw cards. I know many of the board members collect 1986-87 Fleer cards, so you have much more expertise when it comes to grading experiences w/ PSA and this series than I do. If able, please provide your best prediction/guess on what this card may grade w/ PSA. High res scans below. I am not looking for opinions on authenticity; I have established this already. Thank you.

My grading concerns:
-Front: possible printing blemish (white bubble) located to the left of the "M" in "Michael" and possible (but light) edge chipping on the upper, right side blue block area (white chipping on blue).
-Back: Top/center of the card appears to have "residue" mark (from the printing process or unknown) on the top white border and overall L/R centering is not as solid as the front.

Bought a total set from a good friend in March. Most stars are 8's and missing the Jordan

Here is my opinion outside chance at an 8 likely a 7

    regards

Barry ps good luck with the sub Regardless belongs in a PSA holder keep us posted

I'm not sure why your getting the 6-7 range speculation. I don't see this as a 6-7 card. I think you have at least an 8, maybe 9. I see things on the scan, that I think are your scanner (IE line going down the center of the card). The corners lookmsharp, centering is pretty good, off top to bottom, and minimal chipping. I've seen cards that look worse in 9 holders.

The problems are on the back of the card to me. On the reverse, right edge 2/3ds down seems to have chipping on back and lower right corner seems dinged on back scan, top right corner on back not so great either. There is some snow on front, if there's any scratches or scuffs, even if it just was lightly moved face down on a table top creating light scuffs, it should be a 6. I'll assume what looks like deep scratches are the scanner or holder and not the card, that would knock it to an immediate 5. I say it's a PSA 6 and I'll cross my fingers for a 7 for you. No way an 8. If it comes back an 8, I need to resubmit a lot of cards of mine that are 8's. lol. Good luck!

I've built three of these sets in PSA 9 grade, the backs of these cards always look like crap. They look beat, dingy, dirty, and frankly just plain ugly, the front of the card is where it's at. Again, assuming none of the corners are hit, I think he has an 8 there.

Let's sub it and see who is closer. If you lived closer Matt, we could bet dinner. '6' I win, '8' you win, '7' is a wash.

What about 8OC? Hour drive for both of us, we could meet for dinner!

Definite 8. Chip on back is significant and should keep it from a 9. Outside shot at 8.5
  • Thanks for all the opinions. I want this thing to grade 7 or better. I just pulled the trigger by submitting it with another order. I shall post the results when it comes back w/ scans. With current backlogs at PSA, this may take a while! Meatloaf

I always love the "what would this grade" posts? Most of us are experienced at grading, yet we will still have a range of somewhere between 6 and 9. I find that very interesting.

    PSA 7.5

    Not Chaz
  • I would also say solid 8 all day. Centering and wear would keep it from a 9 but corners look crisp and centering is far better than any I've seen in 6-7 range.

Also interesting is that whatever it grades, if we crack it out and resubmit, there's a really good chance it comes back a full grade up or down. lol!

I Believe your Jordan rookie card is a 8 , but that does not matter , a PSA grader will look at that and give you a 7 , i just got hammered on a 1986 Fleer Larry bird i got around to sending in that finally Popped and they gave me an 8 , when the Card was flawless , Front and Back etc easily a Gem 10 , my membership ends 5/31 and to be honest i doubt i will re up , SGC and Beckett for me from this point forward , i like the Beckett idea of Subgrades on each card , Good luck on the MJ!!! great card!
