I was stupid and lost a coin - post a nice coin to make me feel better

jmcu12jmcu12 Posts: 2,452 ✭✭✭
Ok so I just purchased an 1875 Carson City 20 Cent - and now I cannot find it. It was/is xf/au and I am just mortified that I could do such a thing.

It was still in its original flip and I think I may have thrown it away.

Help me feel better about being so dumb! image

If it makes you feel any better, Fred Weinberg said he once threw away a PCGS certified Stella.

I once mis-placed two of my Merc Varieties. After about 6 months+ or so, I found them in the cargo pocket of a pair of shorts...I went to a local show for about two hours that day, came home, changed and hung them up in the closet not to wear them again for a loooooooong time. Good luck!

Losing a coin is rough enough, but losing a double dime ... and a "CC" no less, is a disaster!

Here's a potty twenty-cent piece because I know you feel like crap.

It is possible I will find it but at this point I have already torn my place apart looking for it. The only thing I have not done is to move some heavy furniture to see if it slid underneath - but I am not holding my breath. God...how dumb - but at least it was not a Stella image

Your smarter than that. It won't be thrown away and will turn up. It's far easier to be positive
than negative, plus it feels so much better. Just think as if it was placed away for its own
    protection.
    Best of luck.

Think of it this way, you've left a present for yourself sometime in the future. When you've stopped looking for and thinking about it, it will more than likely show up. At about that point a thunderous sound will be heard around the coin collecting world from you slapping your forehead while saying...DOH! And lastly, yes, at least it wasn't a Stella.

Well, gotta look at it this way: It could have been your 76cc double dime!

    Count your blessings!!

You're fortunate. I misplaced my entire brain about 27 years ago with my first born. I've been looking for it ever since.

This is one I lost/can't find:

    Conserved it to this:

My personal feeling is I sent it to an eBay winner who won something different. I never listed this coin on eBay but had 30 coins laying around the group of eBay coins.

Of course they never came forward to let me know of my mistake.

It'll show up eventually. I "lost" a nicely toned raw 1956 Franklin once when I hid some of my coins. When I went to send it and some other coins from the mint set it had been in out to be imaged I noticed it was gone. After tearing the place apart, it eventually showed up about a year later. Never did get it imaged, but here are it's cousin Washington and Roosevelt from the same mint set with essentially the same toning.

I'm still looking for the 1955 double die I "misplaced" 7 or 8 years ago. I have a feeling it went into a bag of wheats and was sold in it. image

I'm still looking for 2 185x gold dollars I misplaced years ago. I'm not sure if they were even real as they were raw, but I'[ve torn things up looking for them and nothing. Still makes me ill.

Here's my Lincoln Commem which I don't plan on losing:

I actually thought you meant that you lost it on the Bay by not bidding as much as you would have.

I hate it when that happens. Maybe you'll find it. Just go buy another one, that'll make ya feel better. Only this time buy a much nicer one so you don't loose it....Keep your chin up bud, it could be a lot worse....

I just posted this in another thread, but thought it relevant enough to this one to post it again. I hpoe you find your coin. I once lost a 31-s Lincoln in EF that eventually turned up in the pocket of a shirt that had been drycleaned. Came out very glossy, and eventually sold for over a hundred bucks image

jmcu, Hang in there it might turn up yet. I am posting a coin I had purchased to help finish a Blue Whitman folder of WLH's I had been working on since the late 50's. I thought I had lost this coin but it eventually turned up. It was tucked between the pages of a folder of extra WLH's.
