Built My Own Display Case

So I just got done building my own wooden display case that sits on a counter top. Below is a picture of it with some of my favorite cards in it. It went well and I think it came out great.

Just wondering what people think, and if I should stain it darker or leave it the natural wood color. I cant seem to make up my mind! Any criticisms or different ideas are welcome. I may make another one.

Nicely done! Whether or not you stain it depends on where you put it and the color of the room etc. On first glance, I'd say darker stain but not if you're in a room with a ton of light.

Is this to display your cards or to sell cards in public? Either way it's fine. If to sell cards the lighter wood would reflect light and show the cards better. If to display your cards same reasoning.

    I like what you built.

  • It looks like one of the nice display boxes at a card show. That's impressive work.
  • Very nice!

You could consider lining the bottom with some nice black velvet (but don't permanently attach it) and stain the insides of the case a nice dark walnut stain.

    It'll make your cards pop.

I was at a card show this weekend and this old timer was selling similiar display cases. He was asking $30-$55 for them and they were really pretty nice. He had a couple that were thin, these would be great for cards. The price was right, but I dindn't buy them, should of! Your look pretty darn nice too, how much in material do you have in these? What kind of wood?

It looks very nice. Maybe a little thinner, so that you can hang it on a wall? No matter what, it's beautiful.

It is just to display my cards, not for shows.

jmmiller777, my only expense was the glass. I got all of the other materials from my fathers workshop so i did not have to pay for them. So I dont know what to tell you about expenses. Also I honestly am not sure of the kind of wood.

I like the idea of black felt on the bottom, I may have to try that. Thanks for all of the compliments!

    Felt for sure, great work!!!!

Edit: I can remember making a few display cases, not as nice as this, back in the late 80's with my dad so we could sell at the local flea market.

    Awesome!
