LQ Variety - New Mystery Person in Mercury Dimes

keyman64keyman64 Posts: 15,507 ✭✭✭✭✭
LINK TO MERC VARIETY REGISTRY SETS

The set completion %age is impressive and I sure would like to chat with this person if anyone can give me some information...maybe PM me. From browsing the different Merc Reg Set Categories, the person does seem to have the basic set with a FB %age of over 70% it seems. Some good stuff in there!

A person just bought 2 of my PCGS Variety Coins recently and it makes me wonder if it is the same person but who knows...they have not replied to my inquiry.

Can anyone share any info or put them in contact with me? No need to out them since they clearly do not want to be outed. Just PMs. Very exciting and interesting to see a set like this just pop up.

Yea it looks like they want to remain anonymous since they're set is obscured. Too bad, I'd be interested in seeing their set.

I sure wouldn't mind being able to send them a message. Geez!

I agree with Dimeman. Why would anyone want to join the Registry without owning up to it? Does not make the
least bit of sense to me. Also, a sad state for the Registry to allow competition from unknowns. For all we know
many different collectors may have went together to gain a higher ranking. If so, then shame on them and their
collection is a joke. I have plans over the next year to get my 60 some mismash of coins all in pcgs plastic and I will place them on
the Registry because I am proud of the minor collection I have built over the last 10 years. Hopefully, one day,
PCGS will agree with banning unknown collectors.
    Then that's just my opinion---Jim.

Some people collect for their own pleasure and just use the registry for a online listing as it gives cost and price guide info and it has a area for notes and the like.
All types use it and how they want to use it is personal choice. I don't have to share if I don't want to but personally I put in big images and show off my cheap stuff all the time.
BTW I'm not the guy your looking for just a registry collector with a different point of view.

I guess also that people could and do join the forum just to obtain info and not to participate. I know of many lurkers, but
they usually become participants. I would think that the creators of this forum did it to provide a place for numismatics to
be shared between collectors, sellers and just interested parties. I think without any participation it would fade away, as would
the Registry if all became unknown. Absolutley not mad about someone using the system for their own purposes
but do have an issue with abusing it likewise(in this case without actually owning the coins).
    Again just an opinion---Jim

Yeah I'd have to agree with dimeman, at least make grades and dates/varieties a must to be shown. How else can you compete when you don't even know what your competing against. I can however understand if they don't want to show cert. numbers., but they should at least upload pics of the coins themselves then. Thats just mine 2 cents on this issue.

Thanks... wait until I have the newps imaged !!

BTW - the new set everyone is discussing looks like its a higher end set.
Of course, I can see not opening the set until its exactly where you want it.
People have a tendancy to hold the Registrant hostage for coins they aeek.

Wow, why are people crying over an obscured set? I can only imagine the reaction if an obscured set wins a registry award in that category. It's not about you looking at their coins. It's about them putting together a set. Leave the guy (or gal) alone.

I'm not crying but I can understand others' desire to see the sets that are active/published. Mercury Dime Varieties is a passion for me. All of the active collectors know each other and we have helped each other more times than I can count. Larry, Tony(just retired his set), Jon, Floyd, me and now this mystery person. That is the full count of active Merc Variety PCGS Reg set builders as far as I am aware. We are a small family of sorts and it has always been fun helping each other. That's really what it's all about.

My comment was more directed towards Dimeman and jesbroken for the following quotes:

<< <i>Sorry, no excuses. Shouldn't be allowed for No reason NO how NO way.

A lot of strong language directed at both the individual and PCGS simply for having an obscure set. Personally I think it's funny. Like a child getting upset because another kid doesn't want to play with them.

I tend to agree with the majority. If one is going to play one should have to show what they got.
