Is there something different looking about this 'S' mintmark on this 42 merc? I don't think it looks
like an inverted S but I think it looks different than a normal S also. Any opinions?
Thanks
Jim

There is a serif S and a san serif S for 1942 (large and small if you will). The Inverted S has serifs.
Here is the inverted S

<< <i>That is the San Serif S or large S. The ratio of large and small must be pretty close. Both versions are easily located. The tough on is the inverted s. >>

<< <i>Thanks for the education, Tony. I did not know of the two(large and small) S and the Inverted S.

I was thinking this should have been one in the new Cherrypickers' Guide, because they recognize the 41 large S and the 43 large S.
