What are some of the best modern cases to rip?

I'm thinking of blowing a few thousand and ripping some modern for the first time. I've seen Mike rip some national treasures first hand and that was cool but I'd like to get a little more than 4 packs, lol. I want high end but I'd like to get 16 to 20 boxes or something like that if I'm only going to get 1 pack per box. What are my best bets? It doesn't even have to be from the most recent year. I'm looking for, in no particular order:

- coolness factor of cards
- big hit potential
- quality of rip (amount of time it takes to rip vs. adrenaline rush)
- profit potential
- risk vs. reward potential, ie...I don't care what it costs as long as the amount of potential hits justifies the risk

It could even be a combination of cases and/or sports. Discuss

For a little over 1400 a case you could do 2006 national treasures football. The rookie class isn't the best, but it's loaded with hof'ers. Me and my friend just split a case of it. I had the case for a few years. If you want to see the cards we hit, check out completed auctions under boogerhead71. The case will get you a total of 28 cards and only 4 base cards.

Did you get many redemptions from the 2006 NT case? I ripped a 2008 case and got a ton of redemptions that Panini is giving me a hard time honoring.

Tommy, I think I would grab some of the 2012 higher end football. Not sure what is coming out when but I have to thing Luck and RG3 cards are going to go for crazy prices.

No point in looking at FB until some of the better releases come out IMO. Finest if I remember correctly is the earliest of what I'd consider to be in that group.

I didn't hit any redemptions. 2006 NT have only a couple redemptions in it. One off hand that I remember is Brian Calhoun.

I've been into the modern high end stuff and here is my advice. Go for the 2011 National Treasures cases unless the Cam Newton NFL shield RC was already pulled.... Also go with a few cases of 2011 Bowman Chrome baseball unless the Harper Super Auto was already pulled.....just my opinion, good luck with what you decide.

2012 Bowman. Never buy regular cases. Only Jumbo's. Yu Darvish and Harper are both in there this year plus a ton of great RC's. It's going to be Sweet!

I got 5 at $800/case, they ate going for $1200 plus right now. I'll get you connected with with my guy. Straight wholesale, always beats EBay and any competitor period. He had sold me cases and made $20 after shipping. Great guy, best prices, awesome service. I've bought 50 plus cases from him. Confidence.

If you like basketball I'd go for 2010 Ultimate and if you have a racing itch to scratch the 2010 Five Star is the best of the best.

Tommy, saw a few busters get beaten down at the LCS of the basketball version. They are triangle looking cards? The boxes ran about $175 per box and they were pulling about $10-30 dollars worth of cards per box. I saw them bust five or six of them.

Big Thumbs down on basketball.

Notice I didn't post any basketball or Leaf products......great cards but the value isn't quite there. Also, what miconlegacy said about baseball and Bowman...you can't really lose on cases annually if you sell at the right time. If you're going to bust them, it's time consuming but fun. Superfractors and Auto reds/oranges are what you're looking for!

I don't buy Panini products anymore. The redemption process takes too long and you can never get a hold of anyone at the company. I still have several 2010 redemptions out there, a few of them key rookies that I could have sold for a decent profit.

What are some of the best modern cases to rip?
