Would anyone be willing to give me their opinion on what PSA would give a couple of cards?

I have a box of what I think are very nice 1971 Topps baseball cards, but on the few occasions I have sent PSA things before I guess I'm not a very good judge. Is there anyone who, if I sent them a couple of scans, would let me know whether these cards are worth sending in? If this is not an appropriate post for this category I apologize and please delete it. Thank you.

Just post the scans here in the thread.... I am sure people will chime in.

  • I had problems with putting the scan here - here's a link to it. The debris on the Carroll card is from the scanner not the card.

    My best and educated guess:

Joe Coleman 7 (possibly l/r OC?)
Clay Carroll 7 (if in fact the snow is scanner related)
    Tug McGraw 6(oc) or 7(oc)
Hank Aaron 6.5 (they are tough on the HOF'ers)

Just an opinion based on my experiences with similar tough cards...the '75 minis.
  • Thank you. My follow up question would be how high do they need to be before it's worth grading them (i.e. the higher sale price outweighs the cost of grading)? (I have several hundred in roughly this condition).

  • I think I just found my answer - graded PSA 7 commons are only a couple of bucks each on eBay. Oh well. Thanks again.

Not to rain on your parade...but it matters not a bit what anybody on these boards "thinks" your cards will grade. It only matters what the grader in Newport Beach, CA thinks of your cards. You are doing yourself a disservice my taking anybody's guess here...not that they are necessarily wrong, but there is a world of difference between a PSA 7 and PSA 8 or 9.

I sent in my entire 1955 Topps baseball collection (ranked 14th at the time), and was pretty surprised at the results. I was about to sell my cards when I was convinced to jump through the hoops to have my cards graded for possible half point bumps. I ended up getting 18 bumped to 8.5 (from PSA 8), and actually got a PSA 8 to bump to a PSA 9. The difference in my sales was substantial to say the least.

    GL with your cards.
  • I know that only the grader's opinion really matters, but I'm figuring a lot of people here will have a lot of experience with grading and I can get their opinions for $0/card as opposed to what I'd pay PSA. Maybe other people want to chime in and give their opinions of whether these are worth sending in and I guess that would give me a better idea. I appreciate any advice anyone has.

They look to be in the 6/7 range to me. Good luck.

If you received 7's on those '71s, I would say the grader
    was VERY generous.

  • This has been really informative. It would appear that I am strictly a mid-grade collector, and also that I am out of my depth on these boards....thanks to everyone for their comments.
