1985 OPC Wrestling Value Query

Hi

I'm curious as to what people's opinions on 1985 O-Pee-Chee series 1 and 2 wrestling values. The value (selling prices) to me seem very low for a product that to me seems to not be overly easy to obtain. Unopened wax is nearly impossible to find as are cards in high grade. I'm just curious as to what people think is the reason for the low prices realized as well as general lack of interest in this neat product?

I haven't seen much wax of it around either. I know dpeck hit a nice psa 10 on Savage and Andre in PSA 9. Very few 10's ever graded from it.
A couple people have sets registered. I do think series 2 is a sleeper. Considering those cards are different and only in OPC.
American Icons has some nice signed psa/dna slabs of OPC cards on Ebay.

lack of hobby love and respect for sure.

Same applies to O-Pee-Chee Baseball from 1965 to 1989

Part of it is hobby wide. Most people do not realize how scarce OPC is when compared to its Topps Counterpart, and thus, don't understand the eventual supply and demand benefits.

As far as the Wrestling Rennaissance that is occurring, these will be part of the second wave. They will not explode like the Wrestling All Stars, but there will be a big demand increase as time goes on.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

    CDHC,

The real issue with the cards produced by the WWF is that they have very few key rookie cards, have tons of action shots and there is still plenty of product available.

At this time graded cards from the Topps and OPC sets do not command strong prices by any means but have been showing some signs of life as of late. Once you see higher prices from the graded cards you will see the prices of unopened wax pick up.

I think as time goes by you will see more interest in the sets as the Wrestling All Stars continue to become more expensive and these are a much cheaper alternative and still a very cool product.

Historically wrestling cards were very cheap but most realize at this point the Wrestling All Stars have become quite valuable. There is no other set of wrestling cards like the Wrestling All Stars and they are in a class of their own.

They are the most expensive raw trading cards now from the 80's as they should be in my opinion and the only set that is more valuable in graded form is the 1986 Fleer Basketball set.

I think any of the cards from the 85 Topps or OPC in PSA 10 are destined to become more desired and valuable in the future and especially the OPC. As mentioned above I recently submitted a Randy Savage and Elizabeth that was the first awarded a PSA 10 Gem Mint grade and only the 8th card from the Series II to achieve such a grade.

It takes time for markets to become aware of how rare something is and over time you will see higher prices for these cards but nothing like the Wrestling All Stars under any circumstances.

    Here are a few scans.

Thanks for your replies. I would agree that value's on these will certainly increase as time goes on for a product that was not mass produced. Dpeck, that PSA 10 is awesome!
