<< <i>May I simply say that it is EXTREMELY cool? >>
I'll second that
8 Reales Madness Collection
The condition of the gold coins and in particular the £5 and £2 will be a determining factor in pricing this set. These coins are often hairlined and grade rather low for proofs, which is why pristine examples of individual coins sell for so high (Mac's 1893 crown comes to mind). IMO, you should also check Heritage's previous results for such complete ungraded sets.

Well, just Love coins, period.
they are much appreciated.
I was told that the box was made by someone appointed to the Queen and that these were presented to officers...
but people tell a lot of stories.
will check out what heritage has to say??? or, would a British auction house be also a good start?
Would it help if I post all 13 coins, obv / rev next to each other?
Good luck on this....

If i were a potential buyer id be researching Harry Chicken , no reason to think it's not what you were told and i suspect the case will / does add to the value without question, more so if researched.
His prognosis: Unless all coins are proof and still in serious proof state, I should not buy it. According to him there is not a big premium over bullion if the coins are NOT top proof.
he says the case is of little consequence unless it can be proven that Mr. Chicken was an important military person.
I am inclined NOT to make an offer, as i do not wish to be insulting with a low ball offer.
I suggested to have Heritage look at it.
The coins are not in the best of condition.
please see for yourself.
I hope nobody minds that many Images here.

If you're in extreme need of a superb 1887 proof set, it looks like Goldbergs is offering a truly gem set this coming May at their Pre-Long Beach auction.
Start clicking on Lot 3922 for gold.
Lot #4848 will lead you into the silver
Have fun looking, and best of luck should you bid!
I............MUST...........QUIT...........LOOKING.................NOW!!!!!!!!!
Geez, I might have to make an IRA withdrawal!
<< <i>One last thought on those images you posted................several actually look like cast counterfeits.....at the very least someone has done a filing number on those rims; esp. the gold. >>
I agree, those gold rims look very suspicious
have already decided yesterday not to do it.
Sure looks like GB has some super stuff.
Personally I am not into this stuff at all.
originally I thought it was an opportunity to make a fast buck with it.
I am only in to Canadian 1858-1967 the nicer the better.
although I am looking also out for a German friend for proof colonial coins and notes (or, as a minimum, extreme high and or rare colonial coins)
He is seriously looking for the German New Guinea gold pieces in proof.
thank you all for your input.
was fun, and you saved me a lot of $$$
