1967 wax pack too good to be true?

I saw this 1967 PSA 8 wax pack for sale with a BIN of $175 (free shipping) this morning. It just went up last night. BBCE has a similar pack (PSA graded 8) for $425 and a raw one for $375. I felt this pack would not last long so I hit the BIN. What do you think? In terms of red flags, the price seemed a little low and the seller's feedback is private but it's all positive.

I plan to keep it as long as it's legit. I just don't know why someone would have private feedback if it's all good.

Starting to get a little nervous on this one. If you search this board under the seller name, there is a thread (started by me in December) questioning some items. I knew the seller name sounded familiar! What would be the best way to tell the pack is legit when I receive it?

Looks legit, but remember it's not a Topps pack it's an OPC.

    It's in a PSA holder, that's legit
  • His feedback isn't private, all the items are private. That's not the same thing.

The seller's ID name combined with all those private auctions seems a little fishy, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did that just to mess with the ebay police, who are worse than incompetent.

It is difficult to tamper with a PSA pack holder? I have a few at home and they seem pretty strong - much more so than a PSA card holder. Also, is it possible to look the pack up on the PSA web site using the serial number? I got as far as the population report but it doesn't list individual serial numbers.

Thanks to all for the comments so far. I just wanted to bump this and hopefully hear from some of the unopened pack people.

To summarize: I'm mainly concerned that this pack may have been too cheap to be true, the seller has his items as private and that some of the stuff the seller sold in the past were questionable. So far, people seem to think the pack is legit. Is it difficult to tamper with PSA graded packs? Will it look obvious if it was tampered with?

Absolutely zero chance that the psa holder can be tampered with post encapsulation.

I think it was a done deal. 175 doesnt seem out of line for this type of pack. Ive seen the OPC 1967s sell for around this in the past. You got lucky and it seems he has about half a box judging by the sub #s.
You are protected by PSA and Paypal on this one so you should be fine. Id question it more if it was a raw pack.
    Nice pick up.

I received the pack in the mail today:

The holder is slightly on the scratched side and had a little sticky residue which I was able to remove. If I wanted to get it reholdered, how does that work? Would I need to be a PSA collectors club member and would the pack have to go through the whole process of being inspected by Steve again?

Seller also included for free an open 1975 OPC wax pack (regular size) which contained this card:

WOW! Nice Freebie. You are going to pay for a re-holder for a few little scratches? I guess if it bothers you that much go ahead, but I'd probably leave it as it is.

I believe you are also taking a chance, because if the gum happens to pop thru the pack in transit, you have just lost a few grades.

What the heck!? Sounds like the best seller ever! Keep in mind - I believe the 67 OPC packs only have five cards. I opened a couple of 66's on PackGeek and they only contained four cards each.

Great buy and what a generous seller!

Doug - I agree that the freebie was quite awesome. I expected a bunch of commons when I saw the opened pack - even that would be a nice gesture.

As far as reholdering, I just think if I submitted a vintage pack like that I would have taken care of the holder. I don't even know if PSA does reholder packs or what it would cost.

You got a good deal Daniel. I agree with Doug, I wouldn't re-holder unless the scratches really bother you.

There are a few products on the market like Slab Renew that will buff out scratches on hard plastic holders like PSA's. I would not ship to PSA to reholder a wax pack unless the holder were actually cracked as you are taking a chance of the gum tearing the wrapper in transit and reducing the grade to PSA 5.

The pack he threw in was already opened by him so he knew the Yount card was there. Very nice gesture on the part of the seller!!
