I agree as well. Have seen it from both sides of the aisle. I've recently sold some cards at previously unheard of prices. I've paid more than normal/expected on several... and have lost out on many, many, many cards at eBay auction that had sold at prices considerably higher than VCP average(s) at the time.
Market is much stronger than I expected this spring. I was ZERO for 12 tonight and if I really want it, I'll go much higher than VCP. I have not really paid much attention in the past. Looks like more than just the tax refund effect.
This auction ending soon is a perfect example...... I don't know what the VCP on it is, but it isn't even close to $100. I bought mine over 2 years ago for $35.......4SC sold one for $45 in March....this one is at $101 with 20 minutes to go....seems like everything is up recently
I'd rather have the 1986 West Palm Randy Johnson. Earlier card and lower pop.
I had a crazy Twilight Zone dream last night where the US dollar became so worthless that Trading Cards became the new currency. Seriously! A few people lost their farms because their entire portfolio was in Roger Clemens 1984 and 1985 cards. Speaking of, I cant believe I picked up a couple of 1984 TCMA Clemens in PSA 8 for $30 last week. (There are 247 graded 8, another 33 in PSA 9 and none in 10). I remember when that card went for a few hundred raw and I never could afford it.
Looks like I picked a bad week to stop sniffing glue.

When you see these wacky VCP blowout auctions, take a close look at bidder history and how many were in it until the end. When I see 2 bidders fight it out, it's a one-off. When 3, or more, it's more legit to me. In the case of the Mattingly auction, you had one guy bid 9 times ????
