Went to a show yesterday....a new trend??

So I went to the weekend vintage show in Albany, NY yesterday. Im working on finishing up my 70s sets so I was looking to put a dent in my lists. It's been a while so I dont know if this is a new trend or just coincidence but most of the guys who were carrying 70s commons had them by team, not by numerical order. It was an absolute b*tch going through the cards because I only had the numbers listed and not the player/teams with my numbers. Since when did people start selling their 70s commons by team? Is this the most common way dealers are selling now? I guess they are more to the team collectors than the set builders? I think I wasted 2 hours of my day because I had to check each and every number to what was on my list. I dont want to go to a bigger show like White Plains only to run into the same issue and wasting a ton of time when I could be looking at more interesting items. I guess its no big deal if they are by team as long as I know the trend and I can have my lists by team.

And then one guy had a few vintage cards, vg pete rose rc, vg koufax etc... I asked about them just to see prices and again... priced OVER BECKETT... What the hell is this? The rose has bad corners and was 20-80 centering and this guy wanted $1100 for it... Do they even sell any cards...

Its seems many dealers at shows aren't really looking to sell to collectors, there looking to sell to suckers...

<< <i>i was at a show on long island and all the 70's cards were not by # or team, but by players uniform number >>
That's funny!

Yeah, it is nice Jeff has kept it going but he will never make the money that Ed Keetz made in the hey day! lol

Dick: it looks as if you're reorganizing your records. Um, what is it? Chronological?
Rob: No.
Dick: Not alphabetical.
Rob: Nope.
Dick: What?
Rob: Autobiographical.
Dick: No f***ing way.
Rob: Yeah. I can tell you how I got from Deep Purple to Howling Wolf in just 25 moves. And, if I want to find the song '' Landslide'' by Fleetwood Mac, I have to remember that I bought it for someone in the fall of 1983 pile but didn't give it to them for personal reasons.

I've often wondered why most dealers at shows and card shop owners seem to dislike the idea of professional grading companies. I think I understand now. They just try to sell raw cards at mint prices, when in fact they are closer to EX to NM. You're right when you say that it seems like many dealers aren't looking to sell to collectors.
<< <i>At least people have vintage... Just went to a show yesterday in phoenix and one dealer had a bunch of vintage, all graded t205's and t206's... everything was graded psa 4-5 and priced 10-50% higher than BECKETT for mid grade cards...

Its a big joke for sure. Its the same on Ebay some dealers are way overpriced and they sit there for months.
Personally i think it's because it's faster to sort into teams then into putting cards in numerical order. I know i wouldn't want to sort 1,000 of cards in numerical order when you are not going to make much money off of the cards to begin with. Where i live, if it's not a higher dollar star or rookie the dealers don't even bring the commons because they usually just sit there collecting dust.
Might be different at bigger shows, don't know.
Cheers,
Steve
