What do you think about sellers that require ip.

Well here's my question. I ordered a jersey for my son almost 5 days ago and the seller required IP. No problem paid and am waiting. However the seller hasn't mark the item shipped yet and I ordered this for my sons b-day that is next week. I feel that I ordered this in plenty of time and would like the seller to let me know that it has been shipped (after all I paid right away). After 5 days I e-mailed the seller to see if the jersey shipped and no respons yet. This might be jumping the gun, but what would you do?

    Instant Payment
  • What was listed as the expected delivery date on the item page at the time you clicked to make the purchase? Some sellers only go to the post office once a week and they set their expected handling time accordingly, which would have been reflected in the expected delivery date displayed by ebay. As long as this date is earlier than the party, I wouldn't worry yet.

Not sure what instant payment has to do with anything.

You don't have any recourse other than trying to get seller to ship by asking nicely.

Even though I usually pay instantly. I refuse to buy from sellers that demand it. This is a good example of why. If a seller wants the money instantly he should get off his a$$ and get the item in the mail the next day. EBay's policy states buyer has a week to pay.

I do not demand "IP" on items that I sell, and am still able to send out my packages within 24 hours of receiving payment.

Hope you get the item in time for your sons big day.image

Any item that is paid the same day or next day before I leave for the post office, ships the next day. I always make it a point to go to the post office one day after the auctions - which I feel is plenty of time for some one to pay if they want it shipped ASAP... If they take longer, I take longer. If they take a week I will sit a week to ship, if it is paid before three days I typically ship one day after and four days after, so I get 95% of the auctions out.

oh ok, instant payment.....i run auctions and some have a buy it now attached to them... i like the instant payment they allow you to check off for...keeps buyers on their toes, especially the newer crop of semi-deadbeats

  • Instant payment only works well on fixed price auctions where the seller is firm on price. Fixed price/make offer listings that require instant payment are ridiculous, because payment is only required instantly if the buyer pays the initial asking price. If someone sends a lower offer that the seller then accepts, the buyer then has a week to pay. Stupid if you ask me.

And this has what to do with the OP's question? I doubt he bought it from you... The only thing you did here was put your foot in your mouth again.
  • Ok, I understand that may be taken the wrong way so I will clarify.

I ship on days (after a set of auctions end) 1, 4, 11. I don't purposely wait a week to ship them the item, they just end up waiting the week because I'm not going to make special trips to the post office for one item. Typically when I list a bunch of auctions no card will exceed $100 or so - any card $250+ I make a special trip to the PO for.

I think IP required for BIN items is fair because (1) you are making a decision to buy something at a known price, like at a store or even on Amazon, etc. (2) If you don't pay eventually, the seller would have missed opportunities to sell the item to someone else; moreover, relisted items tend to have a stigma.

I disagree. (1) Say you want to buy a few items off of the same seller, you have to pay for each item seperate. (2) Say you want to sit down with a bottle of Chianti and Van Morrison and go on a buying spree on eBay, its a pain in the ass to keep having to log in for each transaction. (3) I think its shady and they are just out for my money.

  • Thanks everyone. I guess my concern is that the seller had IP set up, which I have no problem with, however he/she hasn't let me know if the jersey has even shipped yet. I guess I'm getting worried that it won't make it here in time.

Hope your son gets his item and has a GREAT B-Day!

People insisting on IP should have to ship their stuff overnight or cram it up their greedy a$$es!
