What are some second or third year cards that..

if graded a 9 or 10, would almost match or surpass the value of the rookie/1st year card?

1976 George Brett, topps and opc

1992 Jim thome, maybe the upper deck gold version? I know this is a stretch, but there are so many 1991's.

1974 Mike Schmidt, topps, but definitely the opc

1964 Pete Rose, gem mint

1977 Walter Payton gem mint

I know there are others out there. Let me know what they are. Let's keep the discussion from 1948 Bowman and newer.

Work hard and you will succeed!!

    i know of one.

    it's a mega-mega super-duper never duplicated 1/1 eye-popping momentum changing over-the-top incredibly delicious cuddle bug of a card.

but, i can't tell you what it is.

Is a PSA 10 64 Rose worth more than a 63? I had no idea. Either one is way out of my price range.

Per VCP the Bench rookie is worth far more in 9 or 10 than is the 69 card. Same is true for the 1st two Rose cards in PSA 9. Neither Rose has been sold in 10 (in VCP's records).
  • A 1973 Ron Cey in a 9 or 10 would be worth much more than his 1972 rookie card in the same grade.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

Benny Bengough's 1933 Goudey card is worth a lot more than his first card, a 1929 R315.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Brett Favre 1991 Topps Stadium Club PSA 10 is about $110. 1992 Topps Stadium Club PSA 10 is about $300. This is more related to the relative scarcity of the series, rather than the condition sensitivity of the card.

  • The 1966 Denny McLain is likely worth more than the 1965 RC due to it (the 66) being a high number.

Also, any 1969 RC or 1970 RC would probably have a 2nd or 3rd year 1971 that would be more.

I'm guessing a '71 PSA 9 Ryan would sell for more than his PSA 9 rookie...or '69 for that matter. VCP might prove me wrong, though.

We should extend the discussion to regional/test/food/etc issues. I imagine many of the '61 Dice Games and '68 3-Ds would surpass many of those players' rookies.
