Pitched well enough for a shutout, got a ND instead.

Tonights Giants v Phillies game was pretty epic. Matt Cain went 9 innings of shutout baseball, then got pulled for a pinch hitter. Cliff Lee went 10 innings of shutout baseball before getting pulled for a pinch hitter. Both guys got no-decisions.

Anyone know what the record is for innings pitched in a "scoreless outing" where the starting pitcher got a no-decision?

Not sure of the record, but it's at least 16 innings, by Gaylord Perry. link

Not a shutout, but both pitchers threw a complete game:

And now Cliff Lee is on the DL for hurting himself with a pitch in the 10th inning.

Pitchers these days don't seem to be built for the same sort of work load that pitchers of the old-days were.

Marichal threw over 200 pitches in his duel with Spahn. You just don't see that anymore.
