Does including cards in the <$100 value hurt w/PSA?

ie, say i have 1986 Jerry Rice that is a borderline 8/9. An 8 is a $50 card, while a 9 is a $200. Do you think or have you seen any experiences where including these type of cards incluences the grading negatively?

Not I. I think they are okay with it as long as you aren't abusing the guidelines. There's no guarantee a card like that will get a 9, so submitting based on the 8 value is acceptable. However, if you try to slip in a Jordan RC and claim it's a $50 card, you'll have problems.

Edited to add - They wouldn't push the grade of the Rice card down arbitrarily just because they don't want to return a card worth more than $100 from the <$100 sub. I've received many cards back under the <$100 value submissions that are worth well north of $100 when they get 9s or 10s. Just don't try to submit cards that are obviously required to be submitted in the higher tier (vintage Mantles, high dollar rookie cards, Ryan RC, etc).

I think they go more by Beckett or book value raw wise. Not PSA graded. BC what if its Min siz or Mis cut but you valued it at Gem Mint PSA 10 SMR. They go by raw value I believe.

I thought so too. I recently sent in my first sub and I used Beckett......hope I didn't make a mistake.

No real answer.....has been discussed a million times.///////////states declared value is for insurance purposes only. But like Gemint said....try to sneak a Jordan rookie in there and you could have problems.

    they DO check!
  • I remember reading that PSA asks that you use PSA 8 value when determining the value of a card for submission.
