New Auction and Classified Ads Site (www.collectorscrave.com) – Listings are only a $1 with no addit

Dear PSA Board Members,

It has been a long time coming but I finally had the time to develop my own auction, classified ads, and storefront site with the help of some longtime friends and collectors. This weekend was busy completing the final touches but I believe it is ready to go. Like many of you, I’m tired of all the fees associated with other websites and decided to take a leap of faith into doing my own site.

My site, CollectorsCrave.com, is fully functional and works in a similar fashion to other competitors. However, the fees are minimal. The baseline fee to list any Auction or Buy It Now is just one dollar with no final value fees or relisting fees. If your item doesn’t sell then you’re able to relist the item as many times as it takes to sell at no additional cost.

My site wasn’t developed just for Sports Memorabilia but for all collectibles (Art, Autographs, Coins, Comic Books, Militaria, Stamps, etc…). You can list items in an Auction, create a Classified Ad to promote your website, and/or open a Storefront to showcase your inventory. Additional listing features are also available and include Better Listing Placement within a specific category, Featured Items on the Home Page, and Bold Titles. These features do cost a little more but you don’t have to use them and they are much cheaper than other websites.

Additionally, there aren’t really that many requirements of the site. You can use any payment method you wish including Paypal which is integrated into the site. If you wish to process your own credit cards, accept cash, money order or checks it is totally up to you. There is a rating system similar to other competitor sites and functions for asking Sellers questions or posting comments about a listing. The site is totally secure with the latest encryption technology and an SSL certificate.

I will add additional features as this site evolves and become popular amongst collectors. The tough part will be driving traffic to the site but I’m planning to start an advertising campaign in all of the major publications that represent the different categories on my site. If you plan to do auctions on the site make sure you have your starting bids at an acceptable dollar amount until more traffic hits the site.

If anyone is interested in helping drive traffic to the site in exchange for totally free listing, please email me at RichardMyers@collectorscrave.com.

Thanks for your time and let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Richard Myers, Owner

  • I still think a back-end percent fee with 0 listing fee is the way to go.

With your current model anyone with low end simply can't list them because it would cost so much compared to the sale price.

    I agree.
With no big time "enforceable" rating system what is there to prevent sellers from not coming thru?
That might kill big ticket items for at least the start.

If u can keep listing the same card over and over it might lead to higher BIN prices than even ebay has become.

Good idea. I hope it works.

Most are looking for alternate ideas vs ebay.

  • I did foresee the issues with low-end stuff but these items could be listed in a group/lot. If you implemented a backend percentage then it could prevent middle to high-end items from being listed. The $1 approach seems to be fair across the board.

    If you list a 1972 SS Chevelle for a $30,000 is cost a $1

If you list a 1937 Kellogg’s Red Grange Football Card for $100 is cost a $1

Totally understand! I would hope the seller gets tired of relisting or take best offers. I can’t control how a Seller prices their listings. However, if you have a rare or unique item that demands big money then you don’t accrue any additional fees to relisting the item.

That's the point though, if you charged a lower percent and did it better than the position people will naturally go to you... Would you as the owner not rather make 5% on the 30k item?

I think with someone doing all the work, you providing the platform that is worthwhile - but that also makes it worthwhile for low end sellers to list massive amounts of items - I know I would probably list several thousand cards if there was only a back end percent. I would suggest some super small listing fee to prevent spam though, perhaps 5-25 cents that is taken out of the 5% but you pay that up front so people aren't listing millions of junk items. So if a card sold for $1, it worth be worth the PWE shipping because you would only pay 5 cents on it, and it cost 5 cents to list - so in essence there would be no FVF but it was charged upfront to prevent abuse on the site... I don't know if this makes sense or not sorry lol.
  • The beauty of my site is that I can develop as many pricing schedules as I want. If you want a price schedule with a backend fee then I can easily build one. The point of my site is to have the lowest fees. I’m open to working with you to try out a new fee option.

If you’re serious about listing thousands of items let me know and we can discuss the pricing plan that works best for you. I built this site for us and others collectors. I just don’t want folks treating my site like eBay and doing business outside of the site. If I collect a $1 up front then I have made my fee and we move on to the next listing. All money collected in the beginning will be used to advertise this site.

In the end, I need traffic to the site in order to make you and fellow collectors successful. If this alternate pricing scheme accomplishes that without degrading the site objectives then it’s a win-win.
  • I personally think that 5% backend is extremely fair, because it is better than ebay - we are doing all the work, so if we get to charge appropriately for shipping, and net 95% of the hammer - it is less of a loss on fees and having to deal with holds and paypal crap. I'd give it a shot if it were something like that, so pretty much if an item sells for $20 you will get the $1, and if it is less it will likely be in bulk and add up to just as much
