Fun day at the card show today

Just got back from another fun day at our local card show. With all the gloom and doom about the dying hobby, I thought you all would like to hear about a 13-year old who just looks forward to the shows so much, and a bunch of dealers who treat him so well.
He didn't have a lot saved up to spend today, but still had great fun and got some nice cards... Including some he really wanted.
Here's what he brought home:
2012 Topps David Wright mini
2012 Topps SP Ryan Braun
2012 Topps SP Freddie Freeman
1975 Topps Gary Carter Rookie
1975 Topps Gaylord Perry
1975 Topps Dave Winfield
1975 Topps Thurman Munson
1968 Topps Lou Brock
And the big one was a 1939 Play Ball Hank Greenberg.
Fun day! If any one wants to see any scans we can post later.

Looking at the cards he brought home I'd have to say that he DID save a decent amount for a 13 year old. Seems like the two of you had a fun time and THAT is what it is all about.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
When he saw the 1939 Play Ball cards, which were new to a dealer he really likes, he was looking at them in the case and said "could I please look at the Hank Greenberg?". Now mind you, the '39 Play Ball cards don't have the names on the front. The dealers got a big kick out of that. :-)
We don't know much about grading, but if I were guessing I'd say the Greenberg was maybe a 4-5 range? It's nice looking, that's all we know. That, and my son was excited to own it. :-)
<< <i>Another thing we saw were these cards from the 1880's of "famous base-ball players, police captains and jockeys.". They'd just acquired them from a woman who had them in a band aid can for 100 years. My son was holding the Buck Ewing card. Really cool. I can't recall the name of the cards...we'd never heard of them. If I had to guess it was called Gold "something" :-). >>
Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a great time with your son. Ewing has a couple of 1887 Buchner Gold Coin cards, one with his hands near his neck and one where he is making a tag.

If that is an accurate grade, your son did GREAT! That card in a "5" is worth $100.00. ($60.00 in a "4")

It's really a guess so I'm not sure. He was happy with it. The dealer was taking about the value as $100 so that makes sense with the 5 grade we guessed :-) He doesn't like graded cards,as he likes to be able to touch them. Maybe someday he will get some of his best cards graded, but that's up to him.
The big thing was it was a hall of famer he didn't have, so he was psyched.
Send me your address, I'd love to send him a nice care package of cards.

Mike - that's awfully kind of you, thank you. He'll be thrilled!
