What does SBC stand for?

I know this is SGC's earliest presentation into grading.
I was just wondering what the acronym SBC stands for.
Anyone know? BTW, the flip is just downright ugly and having it in
that holder would scare off potential buyers.

<< <i>Is this really SGC's first foray into the graded market? I'd figure it's a mom's basement company. >>
Everyone has to start somewhere.
grading system. I thought they borrowed some of their ways from the Alan Hagar Group
but I could be wrong. I once had a '57 topps Roy Campanella SBC 92 crossover to a PSA 8.
I wish I had a scan of it but this was before I owned a scanner, pre '98.
I first saw PSA set up at the 1995 National in St. Louis, but I'm sure they
were doing shows earlier than that.
I saw my first PSA graded cards at Neil Gublitz's table at the 1993 Chicago National.
Neil advertised in the SCD back then, and called his company 'What a Card'.
I don't remember PSA being set up at that '93 National, but they might have had a table there
and I could've missed it.
SBC = Superlative Baseball Card Certification

I don't think it's any worse than psa's flip.

Except for Merkle's mustard stain on mine.

I have a tri-card Bird, Erving, Magic that I’ve had since I was a kid that got a 92 SBC rating and serial number 1923.
Should I keep it in its case or break it and submit it to PSA for the hopes it gets a 9?
I am as big a fan of SGC as anyone - but SBC was lax. I would bet most SBC 92s are PSA 7s or even 6s. I have one SBC card (a 1954 Bowman Campanella in a 92). I would expect it would cross as a 7 but would be more surprised with an 8 than a 6.
Doesn’t look like the L/R centering would allow for a PSA 9.
Left/right centering and the smudge between Erving and Johnson land that in a PSA 6 as the best case. Still will likely sell for more in a PSA holder, since buyers will know it is authentic and unaltered.
The smudge is on the case. The card is perfect except for the centering. I’ll try and get a better photo of the card.
I thought PSA is friendly to cards that are in great condition but aren’t centered?
No, they adhere pretty strictly to their centering grading standards, you still need to be within their posted ranges for a specific grade...
A PSA 9 Mint card must be 60/40 or better on the front. Your card looks to be 75/25 on the front, meaning it would likely be a PSA 7 based on that criteria alone
I agree with this. Attractive card that appears to be centered a bit low and to the right. I predict a 7.
I sent in a well centered 1967 Killebrew 92 to PSA and it came back an 8.
