APMEX offers free gift for taking survey

WeissWeiss Posts: 9,941 ✭✭✭✭✭
And the gift is...

Free domestic shipping.

Really?

They always do this to me too. They offer these things to non-domestic customers, then tell you after the fact that the coupon doesn't apply for you.

I haven't bought from them in probably 2 years now. Sure they have a lot better selection, but I am finding much better premiums and shipping/insurance costs elsewhere.

I didn't fall for the survey.... I just kept hitting the next arrow, without responding to any of the questions. The survey allowed me to do this, and of course when I got to the end and found out the 'free' gift was shipping on a $3000 order, I passed....

Absolutely terrible job out of them. They are getting roasted on Facebook and other places too. This was my email to them.

"Are you intentionally trying to **** off your customers by losing their trust by offering some worthless "free gift" for completing a survey? Free shipping on a $3000 order? Really? Who green-lighted this train-wreck of an idea? Do you realize you are getting roasted all over the internet for your pathetic super-secret "Free gift" Ridiculous. Either offer a real gift or be upfront with what your are offering. I will not waste my time on your misleading emails again."

It's not like I was expecting a free gold eagle or anything. But free shipping on a larger order?

How about a BU silver dime? What's that, like $2.25? Surely shipping is more than that on a $3k order?

Or an APMEX-brand 1/10th oz silver round.

Add in a buck for processing and a $.49 cent stamp and their cost would have been $4.

And I'd have RAVED about getting a BU merc for free. And if I know YOU (and I bet I do image ), YOU would have raved about APMEX for sending you a free BU mercury dime, too. Right?

APMEX or the people they hired to run this questionnaire (surveymonkey) should know their market better.

Give us what we love for helping you (free PMs) and we'd sing your praises all over the place. Surprise us with something we don't want and lose customers.

I'm glad that this was posted because I got the e mail also and took the survey in good faith only to find trhat I had to spend $3000 to get my" free" gift.Needless to say I was greatly disappointed in what they considered a gift.I just didnt know what to do about it,so thanks everyone.I will post a comment on facebook letting them know exactly how I feel.

Yes, I'm very very dissapointed in APMEX.

This was deceptive. They could have mentioned it up front, so we know how they feel about us of we order less than $3k.

I sometimes select some things into my cart, then keep looking or come back the next day. Twice now i got email,
and I'm going to use that route to tell them, that since I feel mislead, I ordered the items from another place,
and now don't feel comfortable with them.

I'll look for another route to tell them each time I get something somewhere else. All I want them to do is fix it and change
    their practice.

Three thousand is just another example of how out of touch they are with the common man. Three hundred would have been better.

I was just on their site and something popped up offering free shipping on orders of $5,000 or more. No survey required. image

    Facebook update

We apologize. Last week we sent a survey to several customers and suggested a free gift to survey responders. We have received complaints regarding this offer and we want to acknowledge this feedback. Our intention was not to deceive our customers with the free shipping offer. We genuinely wanted to gather our customer’s perspective on investments in Silver, and we are very sorry to have unknowingly upset so many of our valuable customers. We are unable to respond specifically to those who completed the survey (since the survey was completely anonymous) however we will enter the email addresses of those customers who clicked on the survey link (whether it was completed or not) into a drawing to win one of three 1Oz 2012 Silver American Eagles. For those who would still like to use the free shipping code, please know that you can still use it until May 4th. We hope that you will accept our apology. Thank you, APMEX Marketing Team

Nice. The internet is going to be a damn powerful tool until the government and big business figure out how to break it.

I got the apology email today. At least they acknowledged it and are offering something. A better solution would have been to offer all those who participated free shipping on their next order with no minimum or at least at a much lower minimum. Would have probably been a good business boost for them too. I have only ever written two complaint emails to PM providers ever. Both were to APMEX (the other was their handling of the hockey pucks). I now use Gainsevillle and Silvertowne most of the time.
  • They won't break it, just "regulate" it for our protection.

I too took the survey hoping for a meaningful gift. Should've known better.

I took the survey. Didn't mind that there was no tangible gift at the end. I know there is no free lunch in coins or precious metals. image

For a $3000 + order you should get free shipping anyway.
