1956 Topps Baseball

I have been looking to put this set together forever, and had a few questions for the experts. As I probably can not afford to put this together in high grade PSA, would picking up raw cards to get graded be a terrible idea? As in are there lots of fakes floating around online? Are there particular things to look for when spotting potential fakes? I figure I could get more if I bought raw as opposed to picking up ones already graded.

Thanks for the help image

I'm putting it together in PSA 7. It has not been overwhelming. I had the set completed in raw form, then graded the best. I'm replacing all 6s with 7s. I'm finding 7s sell from $15-$30 for commons, 6s much less. The only HOF rookie is Aparicio. Mantle will be costly. But all the other big name HOFers will be reasonable. Since this is such a popular set, I think you will find a lot of competition for raw cards, so you might as well go after the ones already graded, especially if you are looking for solid 5s and 6s. I can set you up with a nice starter lot of all 6s if interested. Shoot me a PM and I can get you a list.

This is one of my favorite sets. Great horizontal card with action view as well as head shot. Attractive back, too.

There are many HOFers as well as Mantle in his Triple Crown year and a great looking card. You may already know, but there are several team cards that come in three different variations.

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

Check out the thread on the registry forum. It has a tremendous amount of information. The '56 is my favorite baseball card year.
