Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

I hope It's not a dumb question but..

I'm usually posting in the currency forum but have kind of rekindled my need for a few cards, an 86 fleer Jordan for one. Back when i used to collect there was maybe just psa grading. I'm on the lookout for this card in my price range. My question, which I am sure has been asked before, is i want one graded by either psa or bgs, are the holders these cards are in transferable such as opening them up to possibly swap it with a reprint then seal it back up? I've seen videos of people removing the card but that scares me that they may be able to swap it out. Is this a possibility? I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question but as i said, I've been way out of the hobby for a long time and wanted to do some research before i fork over some cash for a nice card. Thanks again.

They aren't easily removed, but can it be done? Yes. My best advice to you would be to deal with someone that is reputable. Any computer can make a label that looks like a PSA one. But, generally there are little clues that something is wrong with a fake slab/card if you look carefully enough. But, if you deal with someone that has an outstanding reputation, the chances of you getting burned are very very low. If you see something on ebay and you question it, throw the link up here and let our guys take a look at it. We've bought hundreds of thousands of cards on the internet, and we have a pretty good idea of who is legit and who is trying to scam you.

Yep, that's right. Lots of experience here on the boards. I will add that it would be very difficult to remove a card, swap it and reseal it. There should be tell-tell signs of the plastic not fitting properly and signs of stress on the plastic. Also, anytime you can look up a PSA graded card on the registry, and you are dealing with a high profile, high cost card do so. Also, as previously posted, the guys here prolly represent thousands of PSA and BGS cards. Good luck.

PSA's slabs are "tamper-evident", meaning they're not tamper-PROOF, but it would have "evidence" of tampering if someone tries it. Meaning the chipping/snowy appearance of the edges of the slab.

I can crack a PSA slab in about 30 seconds, but I seriously doubt anybody can easily get away with opening one and then closing it back up without clear evidence of having done so.

As mentioned above, check out the seller...feedback, # of transactions within the baseball card arena and general comments left by buyers.

    GL on your purchases.
  • Awesome thanks so much for the advise. I appreciate it. In will def keep my eye out now. I just wanted to make sure if it was hard to do or not. Thanks again!
