Home Buy, Sell, & Trade - U.S. Coins

A new place to buy and sell ...

Don't get me wrong, sites like eBay are great and provide a needed way to buy and sell. I started using eBay BEFORE they had the eBay.com domain name... back then you accessed eBay via http://www.auctionweb.com/ebay

But barter is also a viable method as well...

If you haven't checked out Listia.com, you should. It's similar to eBay in that everything is bought and sold in an auction-style format. But unlike eBay, it's free to sell! And unlike eBay, no money changes hands.

If you want to see what it's about, go here: Listia.com
(NOTE: If you sign up via that link you and I will get some bonus credits).

There is a great "what is it" video on YouTube: YouTube Video...

I'm not going to spam the forum with solicitations for Listia. This is the only thread I will start and you are welcome to post your questions, comments or feedback about Listia here...

If you want to see what I'm offering in terms of Coins and Currency, search for "OldDogEyes_Numis" when you're on the site.

Good luck!
Doug

PS: There is a great Android and iPhone app for Listia as well... I post a lot of my auctions from my phone!
PSS: If you do sign up, be sure to post your Listia username here in this thread so we can check out what you're offering!

With Listia? I am... I've gotten some nice coins and currency and electronics. It's a great place to put stuff that you haven't been able to get rid of in other ways. For example, I had quite a few wheaties... I'm getting a great price for them and have used the credits to buy lots of stuff.

I probably wasn't clear... The site isn't numismatic specific. But more and more coins and currency changes hands. Ultimately YMMV.

  • So here's an example... I sold two 90% half dollars for 15000 credits. It cost me about $2.00 to mail them.

Here's some things that I got for around 15000 credits recently:

    606 credits - Silver Certificate
16666 credits - lot of 10 Silver Certificates
11250 - lot of over 150 foreign coins
    1952 - Lot of 10 1910's Reischmark notes
3847 - Mystery lot of over 100 foreign coins

No money changes hand. Which means that if you want cash to purchase something somewhere else you are SOL. Not getting cash for my items is a problem. Maybe I want to sell a coin to fund an upcoming purchase with Heritage, will Heritage take my 2,000,000 Lista.com credits... I don't think so.

Someone has got to be making money here, maybe that person is Lista.comimage Let me see, how do you get that 16,666 initial credits to buy something like silver certificates. I would guess that you have two options. One, sell (barter) items and obtain credits or Two... buy credits from Lista.com. Then how much does Lista.com value a credit? Judging from your sale of $22.50 of silver for 15k credits you value your credits at about 666 credits/dollar. I see that a lot of 6s are showing up here, I wonder what that is a sign of.

So in order to cash out your credits you have to buy some 90% silver from someone and the sell that 90% silver on ebay to someone willing to give cash?

This probably is not for me.
