Anyone heard of ACE: Autograph Certification Experts

There is an auction in the Greenville South Carolina area this Saturday that has several baseball player autographed items in it. There are 2 or 3 Babe Ruth items, Los Gehrig, Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Honus Wagner and quite a few others. They are all certified by Autograph Certification Experts (ACE). I Googled the company and found some interesting info about them. They are one of the companies that have been banned from Ebay. Ebay will delete any auction of autographs certified by them. There is a thread on Net54 about them. I called the auction house and was told to bid at my own discretion. They are aware of the reputation of ACE but said that people will always have a difference in opinion. I think I'll pass on the auction.

I am thinking I was watching Pawn Stars and an item came in certified by ACE. Rick said he had never heard of them and called in his own guy.

By the way if you go, bid on the spool of rope for me.

Edited to add: Dang a spool of rope, I might just get in the car and drive the 80 miles to Greenville and bid on it myself.

ACE has a horrible reputation in the autograph industry and as you mentioned, just recently, their "COA's" have been banned from eBay...

Their principal "authenticator", Justin Priddy was formerly with GAI and I think eveyone know's their reputation as well.

IMO, you are wise to avoid this auction.....

I attend two-three auctions each week and have seen a multitude of ACE certified material popping up over the past couple of months throughout North Carolina. Generally, they are all big name HOF, cut signatures, and the ACE certificate has a date of June-July 2011. I suspect someone is pushing them through these local auctions to unsuspecting buyers but have no evidence. I would recommend staying away from them and believe the bulk, if not all, of them are no good.

Wow, looks like it could be a cool auction, lots of old collectibles. Like everyone else, I wouldn't count on any autos being authentic. Still, lots of cool stuff.

I agree with this 100%, ACE is complete garbage authenticator. I've seen their stuff pop up in various auctions and it baffles me that so-called reputable auction houses would list ACE items. I would also stay away from STAT Authentic and AAA authentication, they are also known fraudsters.

ACE, yes they are the best. They'll authenticate anything. A signed Bud Selig in black sharpie (or silver paint pen) it will pass.

The only advic I could give is avoid, UNLESS you know the signature of the player. Some signatures I know to the point to where I do not need to compaire to anything. Knowledge rules.

I have heard they authenticated some real signatures. (Feller, Doerr, Schoendiest)
