Boneheaded purchases you've made

My most recent boneheaded purchase was one off of sportlots where I ordered a 1957 topps archives of Bob Boyd, thinking I was getting a card of the former defensive back for the Colts when it turns out it was the wrong Bobby Boyd as I got the card of the former Ram. He passed away a few years ago. I eventually wound up getting a 1965 Philadelphia for the other Boyd to sign.
What about you?
What about you?

I guess I didn't exactly "purchase" something, it was more of a trade, but still.......

Retired - Eddie Mathews Master Registry Set (96.36%) Rank 1
I read a thread about this card and thought it was the Pete Rose rookie and quickly hit the buy it now for $150 and paid right away. A few minutes later I realized it definitely was not the Pete Rose.
If it sells where it is at now I am looking at a 99% loss. LOL
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"

Winner...hands down!
1992 Collectors Edge Football case?
Knew it was a bad idea as soon as I opened the packs.
I never got caught up in the Upper Deck french high series hockey and all that fad stuff.
In hockey, it was always about the rookies pre-87 and the older stuff for me, as well as a lot of oddball stuff.
It was really a no brainer when it came to deciding whether to buy Howe, Hull, Gretzky, Lemieux, or Pro-Set.
But I was a sucker for those two cases.
<< <i>The half price 3rd row tickets with VIP parking last night's Flyers/Sabres game just to have the Sabres break my heart yet again. At least I got a Pat's cheesesteak b4 the game and cried in a Geno's cheesesteak and a beer after. Someday. >>
Wow, it can't get much better than the pre-game and post-game venue.

on a related note.....here is another mistake.
Must have thought I was an NBA player or something at the time. It was damn good though and I did end up selling the empty bottle and walnut box for $100 so I guess I was only a $300 bonehead!
Traded/sold almost my whole collection of modern rookies (Yzerman, Griffey Jr, Ripken) about $1,500-2,000 worth so I could "invest" in Star cards.
84 Star Bird $400.
85 Olajuwon bag $450
A bunch of singles...Ricky Pierce rookie $35, Dale Ellis $50, Kevin Willis rookie $35.
86 Ewing bag $500!
Right at the peak when the Knicks got in the Finals in 94. Sold it for $50 about 5 years later. I was close to buying a Gatorade Barkley short print for $450. Remember that?
Second boneheaded moves,
1991 Leaf gold rookies set for $150? A lot of money on a 13 year olds budget. A few french upper deck hockey packs at $20 each? I'm glad I didn't invest in 1991 OPC premier baseball, thinking it'd be like the hockey set.
100 1996 Bowman Ben Petrick Rookies,
50 1996 Bowmans Best Wes Helms Refractor Rookies
50 1988 Topps Vinny Testaverde Rookies
I'm sure that list would be more if I didnt have selective memory.
One of the worst - 1965 Carlton RC - was slightly 'retouched' in the white area.
LAST WEEK.
Does that count?
Only an idiot would have a message board signature.
1st yankee to sign for $1million signing bonus, before throwing a pitch in any league,
drafted out of high school. Got in a fight at a bar, tore up his throwing arm, and
never pitched again. Now a crack addict. OUCH !!
