PSA 8.5- how do you value?

I know obviously it depends on the pop of 8s and 9s of the specifics. But what do you consider the value of an 8.5? I feel like the jump from an 8 to a 9 is often about 2.5X to 3X the value of the 8. What do you think for 8.5s?

As you said it totally depends on numerous factors
But I think it is much closer to the value of the 8 than the 9

Depends heavily on year also. 1971 8.5's can sometimes bring good money, while a 1969 8.5 won't really get any more than an 8 unless it's a star or a low pop.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

I look at the following to come up with a price.
    If its the only 8.5.
If its not the only 8.5 and if not what have they sold for.
If its the only 1 I look and see what an 8 sells for and then what a 9 sells for, Example 100 for and 8 and 250 for a 9. Then Id say its about 125-150 range.
If there are no 9s then Id ask about what a 9 would sell for. Ex an 8 goes for 100 then Id ask about 250-300 of the only 8.5..
Population changes it in that way I guess for me.

There is no correct answer so you just have to go by what you may expect to pay for it.

Ya, as was previously stated, there are a bunch of dynamics going on with the half grades. It will be closer to the 8 than the 9, after it is an 8+. I'm not a big fan of the half grades but it does seem as PSA has sparlingly used them, that's good. I am willing to bet a resub would more often than not bring an 8, not a 9.

  • Depends on what the card looks like. I have a '78 Ryan PSA 8.5 that I paid a decent premium (IIRC somewhere in the 50-75% range) for over typical PSA 8 sales at the time.
Even after the premium, it went for less than half of PSA 9 money- and the card looks like a 9 to me- so I am damn happy with the purchase.
