It's official - Cam Newton RCs are still HOT! Two cards sell for $3500 each

I was hoping that Newton would cool off in the off-season with Luck and RG3 in the draft. Guess I was wrong! I wonder if these sales will force #2, 3, and 4 to come to ebay.

The 2011 Topps Chrome Red Refractor Newton Auto, #1/5 and #5/5, both went for $3500 just a few months apart. Both were ungraded.

I think there may be some cooling off when the NFL cards of the rookies hit but not much, especially for a limited card from a highly-collected set year in and year out.

I would guess around $2500. The only difference I see is that Topps Chrome is one of the most popular brands in the hobby. Crown Royale is a niche product.

Cam does have some rich fans out there.

I haven't tracked Cam's cards recently but for the collapse in 2011 football box pricing, I can assume that his cards have taken a hit after the lousy start. The 2011 box prices aren't totally his fault, the other top QBs taken have s*cked just as much, except maybe for Dalton.

The top rookies in that class are now the wide receivers - AJ Green and Julio Jones - but WRs rarely drive product, Moss in 1998 was the last one I can think of.

Is Cam a buy if he keeps falling?

For me I am buying Kyle Rudolph and Torrey Smith auto RCs. They are real cheap right now and I think they could break out over the next two years, especially Rudolph. If Greg Jennings stays hurt, I may have to start buying Randall Cobb as well.
