Neil Armstrong autograph

I'm sorry this picture is terrible and if you can't make a determination I understand, but can anyone tell if this auto is good?
It is available locally in a pawn shop (that is the only picture they could give), with some other astronauts including Buzz Aldrin and a couple celebrity autographs for $500, they will put a 30 day $ back guarantee on it (I asked already).
Would it be worth it do you think this is real?

When I enlarge it to view, it appears to bear a similarity to his pre-1963 signature. I can't make enough of it out though to tell for sure. Can you date the image of his portrait? If the image is post 63, then I'd say no good, cause a post 63 image wouldn't have a pre 63 signature.
Sorry can't be of more assistance without a much better scan.
Take care,
Mike

If that's the case, I strongly suggest you go over there and take a better picture. You'll get a significantly more informed and educated guess from the board.
Good luck.

If that's the best they can do I wouldn't trust them.
The photo is a standard NASA-issued business-suit portrait that was done for most of the early astronauts. The main thing you have to watch out for is an autopen signature. It seems that the vast majority of these (signed) photos contain autopen signatures on them. Neil Armstrong had at least two different autopen patterns of this particular signature, that were used for autograph requests mailed to NASA. Forgeries, while not as big of an issue as they are with his post-Apollo 11 signatures, still need to be looked out for also.
You definitely need to get a better, bigger scan of the photo to post here. I agree with Nightcrawler's comment above. If the seller can't give you a better scan, then they're probably trying to hide something, which would make me run away from this purchase.

<< <i>If you want to risk it, get the return policy in writing and confirmation they accept PSADNA result QA as a valid reason for return. >>
If this is an established business and has been around for a while, this is great advice. What do you really have to lose? If you can find a show that PSA is going to attend in your area, that would be ideal. If it comes back good, you hit a friggin Grand Slam.
