Why do you think this set didn't sell?

As someone who has just begun to collect this set . . . I thought this would certainly sell. Is it overpriced, no demand or what? Thanks1970 Set

    Thank You Shooty
  • I think some of their prices for these basketball singles are crazy. Stuff I was interested in but not paying that kind of money for. If they don't mind sitting on cards for years then they can ask whatever they want. The Levi Bleem school of business.

Since it is not that large of a set, have you gone card by card and listed the VCPs? Just curious ... I think that may answer your question.

I am not a Basketball collector, but even though the set seems very nice, the price seems high.

Looks like this set only has about 5 cards that go for over $100.00 in PSA8.

I think there are also people that remember what went on here 8 years ago and will never buy from this seller.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • All of those basketball sets are way overpriced. What went on with Mint State years ago?
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

Very true, brianwintersfan. Their singles are so overpriced, it's ridiculous. They obviously have the right to charge what they want but I question the approach. I actually found one or two cards that I was doing a general search for. At first, the price seemed a little high to me but I really needed the card and clicked on the link for more info. Once I saw this was the seller, I simply assumed that I had badly miscalculated a reasonable price since I wanted the card so badly. I had clearly fooled myself because all of their cards are so overpriced. Who was selling the card actually convinced me to walk away.

Also, I love how PSA allows this 'Mint State' operation to use the collector site as a sales floor. Every set says to contact so and so. I e-mailed Joe O. about this and received no response.

Below is my 8/25/11 e-mail to Joe O. which failed to garner a response:

    Joe:

My understanding is that selling is prohibited within the PSA Set Registry. The following sets are clearly a dealer's inventory for sale:

    http://www.psacard.com/PSASETREGISTRY/OtherSets.aspx?m=1733

Some of these sets were retired by others and then re-entered under 'Mint State' essentially creating two sets within the All Time Registry. Cluttering the registry with dealer inventory and creating multiple sets detracts from the pleasure of using the registry.

$5k seems a little high....Especially since you could probably buy most of the common singles in PSA 8 and just look for good raw to finish the set out and grade later.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

Im suprised Rick Snyder is getting flak. I have done bussiness with Rick a bunch of times many times regarding several thousand dollar deals and the guy was awesome to deal with and worked with me so we were both happy.

Because of this fact I cant help but post my opinion on the matter especially when refference is made to 707, not once has Levi ever ever nudged even a little bit on a card but Rick has numerous times. I bet if one was interested in that set he would be willing to negotiate.

I dont have a horse in any race anymore as Im long removed from this greed filled bussiness of sportscards.

I have negotiated successfully with Levi.

For the record ...On some of these sets you are still dealing with the original owner just through the seller

OK on some of the sets i had asked questions before this thread even showed up and it all depends on the original owner ... not the selling party .. or so the story goes from Mint State

perkdog - a 'greed filled business' it most certainly is...'74 Topps PSA Set

This is an absurdly priced item as a quick example. There are numerous commons equally bad. Anyone can charge what they want. I do not have any issue with that. At the same time, it's not really 'taking flak' if someone points out the absurd pricing.

I don't have any real beef with 'Mint State' either. As a collector of some of these sets, I was very disappointed to be knocked down a slot because someone quit the hobby, 'retired' their set and then re-listed the exact same cards in another set that is serving as a sales tool. The fact that PSA claims the Registry is for collectors and then will not even respond to a reasonable e-mail is frustrating.

I have simply un-published the sets I am working on and I no longer compare my sets to other published sets. It takes some of the fun out of it and I purchase fewer cards.

My published sets..For Sale will be used to sell my cards. I will try to add 'coded' prices at some point.

Kevin, I understand your point and as I said I dont have a horse in the race and 100% dont agree with PSA allowing anyone to prostitute their items on the registry, heck I remember one time I listed my second set of Bowman Large cards there and the set name was "For Trade" LOL and it lasted less than a day before PSA erased it, it should be a fair playing field for everyone.

I might be the biggest 707 hater on the boards because of a few interactions with levi years ago, especially when I first got into the card scene. Its nothing personal against the guy but I do like to spew my venom when his name is brought up especially when its in comparison to a guy I had far better dealings with.

    Paul

Also we can compare sets or cards between the 2 guys and I garuntee Levi has way more overpriced items in his endless inventory.

Thanks, Paul. I agree that Levi's cards are absurdly overpriced. Have never purchased from him. Interesting story about your set being taken down. I just don't understand how PSA runs this Registry thing. I am really at the stage of trying to stay away from it. Just not worth the headaches. - Kevin
