The counterfeiters are branching out

They're now forging BGS slabs as well as PSA slabs. A recent FBI seizure of a mail fraud operation netted 12 fake BGS 9 Jeter SP rookies and 10 fake BGS 9 ARod SP rookies - the fakes were well enough made they would not be obvious to people at first glance, but each batch had the identical serial number.
Several of each of these cards have been sold through eBay, and others have been offered for sale, though it is not known if any were sold, on Craigslist and some East Coast card shows, including last weekend's White Plains card show.

It's actually kind of serious for me because I just got a bgs 9 jeter sp rookie...
Slabbed modern cards are made from modern materials and products still very much in production, anyone who really wants to put the effort into reproducing them can do it....
unlike a card made 100 years ago, made with card stock no longer made, ink no longer made, and time consuming printing technology no longer used (lithograph), not to mention having to be "aged"... thats why older counterfeit cards are far easier to spot.
