Anybody see the 1967 cello box at BBCE? Mantle on top of pack

I am down in Nashville enjoying the day with the family at Opry Mills I just checked Facebook and saw BBCE just put up a 1967 baseball cello box.
Can someone tell me how much it is? I can pull this site up on my blackberry but not BBCE.
I hope somebody sees it here and buys it.
If we do a group purchase can someone email me so I can get ion?

Very solid point.
Jeff
Maybe Jose will do that with his 60 Cello box!

I'm going to rip all of the packs that don't have stars showing.

sure, will cost a pretty penny though. Apparently there are packs with Frank Robinson and Steve Carlton showing as well.
Tommy, would be interested in either one of those, if you're selling.

<< <i>Congrats Tommy. Hope you take a few more pictures of them before you rip them to shreds. How many cello packs are in the box anyway?
Looking forward to the carnage.
48 packs. Not sure if they are worth $625 each but we will find out.

Hey Tommy, if there is one Mantle already showing chances are there is at least one more in one of the other packs as cards tend to get duplicated in cello boxes. Plus the fact that these are all the same series, I'm thinking you may hit on 2 more Mantles assuming the box contains the original packs which is most likely the case.
Good luck!!!

<< <i>lol, this April Fools has gone on long enough. I'm starting to get all kinds of pm's. I
did NOT buy this box. It would be hard for even me to rip a gem like that, if in fact BBCE did get one of those. I actually got to thinking about it and wasn't Frank Robinson in the 1st Series? >>
Yes, Frank is Series I.
I saw Jose sell a Carlton on top for 455.00 so I thought 30K was steep.
You got me soooooo good.
<< <i>Tommy, I already sent you $625 via paypal for the Robinson pack.. >>
I think I have a Robinson pack somewhere. It may be Don Robinson though, and it also may be '87 Topps instead of '67 Topps. Hope that's ok.

I was basing my figure on the fact that Steve got 26K for the 1st Series box a while back so 30K seems about right for a 2nd series with a Mantle pack included. That being said, 30K may be low or nowhere near the right price. The unopened guys can probably ballpark a better figure.

I opened quite a few 1967 series 2 cello boxes and 6 Mantles was the fewest and i'm pretty sure 11 was the high
but this was before PSA came into the picture,,,,,Jose

We wouldn't play an April Fools joke like this; that's just cruel. Although, we have hundreds of old pics of all the cool stuff we've had over the years, not to mention pics I've taken at people's homes of the sick stuff they don't want to sell. If I get desperate for new content on our Facebook page, I suppose we could post random pics to get the heart pumping a little faster.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Yes, this is a second 1967 Topps Baseball Cello Box, but this is the Mantle series! Unfortunately, this never made it up on the website, as we just brokered the deal for one of our clients. The box arrived in the offices, Steve inspected the packs, and it went out the door shortly thereafter.
The price it sold for is not and was never public knowledge. In fact, I don't even know what it sold for; that was negotiated between Steve and our client.

Did both '67 cello boxes come from the same source? I wonder how many sellers out there that are still hoarding vintage packs/boxes. I heard from reputable sources of a '52 cello brick of wax packs that still exists and also heard of half a case of '70 wax. I'm sure that's the tip of the iceberg though. I think some owners are genuinely concerned that their packs will get ripped if they sell them. I used to broker some deals for a deep pocketed collector who would rip every pack he obtained. He probably ripped through three or four 1961 cello boxes. He ripped two high series '72 football wax boxes I brokered to him as well as a 1955 Bowman pack. Some people expressed serious reservations selling to me because they knew the product was destined to get ripped.

I think people not selling to someone because they know the box is going to be opened is a bit ridiculous, but I can understand it. If I had a valuable game used jersey or bat and a card manufacturer wanted to buy it and cut it up for their products, I'm not so sure I'd be OK with that. But then again, once I as the seller gets paid, what difference does it really make?
I hope collectors continue to sell to us. As grading became big money over the last ten years, a lot of great unopened product has been opened, and it's becoming much more difficult to find these collections. The collections are still out there, and we keep buying them; we just don't find them every week like we used to. That's why we have branched out into newer unopened, modern singles, and autographed memorabilia. It keeps us really busy.
Gemint, where did you hear about the 1952 Topps cello brick of wax packs? Was it on another board? Does anyone have pictures to share?

<< <i>The box could have been a mixed first and second series. I was doing something else when the box came in (yes, I know I should have dropped everything immediately) and had just enough time to take a few pics. The buyer wanted his box overnighted to him and our UPS truck was already on the way for our daily pickup.

I think it matters to those of us who want to preserve the memorabilia as much or more than what it's worth. If I had a game worn Ruth uniform and Topps offered me 2x market price with the knowledge they would shred it up for patch cards, I wouldn't sell it to them. I guess if I needed the money to feed my family, then that sentiment could change. However, not too many people who are living paycheck to paycheck would own such an item in the first place. I have to say I too was conflicted about brokering those pack deals. These weren't '80s wax I was selling to him. Suprisingly he did quite well with his breaks. He pulled two PSA 9 Maris cards from the cello boxes and a PSA 9 Kaline from the '55 Bowman pack I sold him.
The '52 wax brick was from a contact a dealer of unopened product had. The dealer kept trying to get the seller to move them but the seller didn't want to let them go. This was about 6-7 years ago, so I'm not sure if they eventually sold. I haven't seen new '52 packs coming onto the market in recent years, so that would indicate he is either still holding them or they were sold privately.

Actually the thought of someone opening any of my boxes would give me great pause in selling them the item. While I agree that once the item is sold you should move on, I think of an older unopened boxes as a collectible in its own right and not even as the individual packs. I would hate to see something like that that is somewhat rare to be destroyed for individual cards which are common place. So I do not see regretting the continued loss of the type of items a person collects as ridiculous.
