I'll cut vintage off at 1973. Otherwise, 1990 Topps Baseball wins all 5 spots for worst.
    5 best:
1963 Topps Baseball (Clean, colorful, and nearly perfect)
1951 Bowman Football (Amazing artwork, and a great design)
1953 Bowman Color Baseball (Great photos and clean as it can get)
1967 Topps Baseball (Overlooked as a classic set)
1956 Topps Baseball (I love the design and the colors)

    5 worst:
1957 Topps Football (Lots of star power, but two fuzzy pics not my cup of tea)
1951 Bowman Baseball (The artwork is not so great)
1967 Philadelphia Football (Yellow borders - bland design - blah)
1968 Topps Baseball (Not a big fan of the burlap)
1948-49 Leaf Football (A favorite of many - Not me. Too gaudy for my style)

    My favorites are

    1911 C55 Hockey
    1955 Parkhurst Hockey
    1956 Topps Baseball
    1954 Topps Baseball
    1914-15 Cracker Jack Baseball

anything after 1971 Baseball is blah which includes 1975 Topps which I know is popular but I find extremely ugly to look at.

1968 Topps (I know I said in no particular order, but this one is the worst of the bunch. To call this set 'bland' would be an insult to things that are bland.)
    1969 Topps
    1979 Topps

Note that if 1990 were considered 'vintage', then 1990 Topps would occupy all five "worst" spots.

Since an antique car has to be only 25 years old, any card over 25 years should qualify for this discussion.

Thus, 87 Topps is the ugliest for at least 3 more years!

I realize that there are various reasons why people build certain sets with the design of the card just being one of them. Some of these registry's have only a couple of cards in them but I wanted to see if there was any correlation between the number of registry's and the opinions of the people posting their favorites and least pleasing. Many newer sets may not be economically feasible to get graded.

I'm actually kinda glad the 1973 set has so few collectors...has probably made my quest cheaper and easier over the past two years.

Funny that '68 Topps is one of the most heavily collected registry sets per the numbers Frank posted...... yet among the six people who have given their opinion regarding that set in this thread, it has received a unanimous thumbs-down.

I like the 1968 topps. I don't like them as much as the 1953 or 1954 set but it could be worse such as the 1963, 1966 or 1967 set. I would grade the 1968 set in the B-ish range.

By the way, to the person above that, I love the 1973 set. That and 1972 were the first sets I heavily sent out for TTM'ing back in the fall of 2006 when I was a freshman in high school. Even to this day I still send out 1973 cards here and there for TTM's.

My personal theory for why there are so many 1968 collectors is this:

    1) Nolan Ryan and Johnny Bench rookies, plus the first solo Seaver and Carew cards, plus one of the last cards of Mantle. The set may be ugly, but there is a lot of star power.

    2) There have been a number of "finds" of mint cards in this set. So, a collector that wants to complete a set from the 60's could put together an 8-9 set relatively cheaply (keeping in mind the cost of the Ryan). There are a number of PSA 9 HOFers from this set that can be had for under $100. Good luck trying to do that with any other set from the 60's.

    1935 Diamond Stars
    1953 Bowman Color
1912 T207 Brown - some love them, others hate them. Always one of my faves.
    1941 Play Ball
    1909 American Caramel

No Topps issue touches those IMHO. Of the Topps years I'd say:

    1953 Topps
    1956 Topps
    1967 Topps
    1971 Topps
    1962 Topps
