And in regard to your comment on your earlier coin...
<< <i>interesting if that is the sun god holding the sun ! >>
The meaning of the globe on Roman imperial coins has been long debated. It is generally assumed to refer to the Earth itself which, contrary to popular opinion, the Romans were perfectly aware was spherical in shape. The other possibility is that it represents the sphere of the heavens, the universe as a whole. On later (Christian era) coins, the globe is topped by a cross, eventually evolving into the Imperial Orb seen in the regalia of many European monarchies. Wikipedia.
Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, "Meditations"
Apparently I have been awarded one DPOTD.
wow
thanks for the in-depth comments regarding these 3 coins and the earlier constantine
it is quite enjoyable and simultaneously mind-blowing just how significantly human's perceptions shift over the centuries
it seems that you're only wrong until you're proven correct and you're only correct until you're proven wrong and you're only positive until you're not...
as to the measurements of the coins
a USA quarter date 2000 is 24.3 mm in diameter as the comparison
the one with the fleur de lis in the middle is around 25mm. it is a little oblong from 24mm to 26mm.
the mexican/spanish silver one is 20mm in diameter, smaller than the 2000 USA quarter
the one with the guys head is 22/23/24mm slightly oblong
