I had a beautifully toned quarter at one time that had been stored in a bank envelope, and had the name of the bank toned across the obverse. I believe it was also eventually graded by PCGS; it was very cool in the hand.

I think that is pretty cool. This one reminds me of the Morgan that I have that has "letter toning" on it.

I was bored so I photographed mine. It has four visible lines of lettering on it, and at the bottom of the obverse you can see a backwards"1890".

Was in the last page of a Whitman tri-fold album. The printing on the paper flap (on the earlier ones at least) can tone the coins it rests against.

I have a couple 195x Lincolns with Whitman folder toning that have toning voids where the ink on the overleaf page listing their folders shielded the coin from the paper. I can't find the pictures at the moment. Maybe I'll take new ones tonight.

Edit: Cap'n H, coins can be on the 2nd or 3rd panel of the folder and tone like this.

That's right, the back of the flap fold in against the front of the second panel. I was just remembering that the 28-S is on P. 3.

I'm going to go home and cook up a few of these with the words "artificially toned" on the obverse. Some stick-on plastic letters and a pile of Taco Bell napkins ought to do it. image
