Probably not. As you know PSA usually examines star and high dollar cards much more closely than commons. They will reject it for a minimum grade if they can't touch it and closely examine it. I agree that it would take a heck of alot of nerve to crack it to send it in. Not worth it IMO.
The risk is not worth cracking it. If you buy it, send it in slabbed. If it doesn't cross over to a 10, just resell it and get your money back. If you crack it and it comes back an 8 or worse (EOT), then you're screwed.
Thanks. I would never crack it. I've never submitted slabbed cards for crossover so I don't know if they'll ever cross a high grade, high dollar card. Has anyone successfully crossed a BVG 9.5 to a PSA 10 in the slab ?
There's a reason it is in a BVG holder and not a PSA/SGC holder...most likely, it was submitted in the past and came back <10, so submitted to a less stringent 3rd party grading company...and viola!
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Agreed; Surface grade being the lowest is almost always BGS' way of saying sheet cut. Even if it is not, PSA will assume it (as will most collectors as long as it is in that holder).
It is a gorgeous card though, but a little rich to crack out.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

So what would happen if you didn't request a minimum grade?
