Did anybody see the episode of HARDCORE PAWN with the cards?

...Seth gave the dude $600 for a BUNCH of cards....OJ rookie, Gretzky rookie. I think the dude got taken (if that was a real deal)....

Right....if you look at the shot of all the cards on the table however, there is a Gretzky rookie sitting there - to the left of the OJ.

I saw the episode and to be honest couldn't really tell if the guy got taken or not....would have been nicer if more of the cards were shown or talked about. I just started watching the show and it has had some weird episodes....anyone see the episode when the woman took a leak in the parking lot....

Yea the show does little more than freak people out about Detroit. I think the show is a detriment to inner city prejudices and the city as a whole.

I think the whole point of Hardcore Pawn is to show people acting like fools and the owners yelling at the fools. Occasionally the owners buy something from people at really cheap prices because they usually can tell the people are desperate to sell. Sometimes you can tell that the merchandise is likely stolen and/or the people need money for drugs. The owners don't care, they will just brag about how great of a deal they were able to get for themselves.

At least on Pawn Stars (staged or not), the show is about the actual interesting items that people are bringing in.

Pawn Stars is like Masterpiece Theater next to Hard Core Pawn.

  • Even the family trio on the show is dysfunctional (if that's how they are in real life)

Count me in here. I'm basically terrified to go to Detroit after watching this show.

Don't let the show scare you away from Detroit. I've been to the casinos many times and north of Eight Mile where I beleive the pawn shop is located several times. Auburn Hills is nice. It's not too bad....probably on par with Cleveland which is located just north of Parma where I live....and we will have a casino soon.... to be honest I think Detroit is many, many times better now than it was ten, fifteen years ago.....

I live just outside of Detroit (13mile & Woodward) and wish that I could say that the show is staged but I do go down there a lot to Tiger games and the Casino's along with watching the nightly news and I would say that it's spot on how some people act. Just watch another show called "Parking Wars" that takes place in Detroit and you will see the same crazy people. Like I said "some" people act this way but it seems like more than most city's.

now that I think of it, the gilbraltor show probably would have been better.....do they still have the shows in the two locations?? Taylor and Mt. Clemens

Most of the episodes were filmed in Philadelphia. But, now it's Detroit and Providence RI.

i just wanted to chime in on this as far as the show most of it is staged i did have an instance of my partner calling me up and telling me les the owner had some cards that he wasnt sure what they were and pins and what we would offer for them....long story short i took time out my day to go look but the owner wasnt there...we reset the appointment and the same thing...the place itself is a lot smaller than on tv and it sure was run bad...i wont go back ...as far as the city itself i am downtown almost every weekend casinos wings games tigers, lions etc...never ever had a problem as far as the gilbrater shows i go down there to buy once in a while and its not a bad show...just my take ...image
  • I like the GTC shows. Usually the same dealers and if you find the right ones it can be great for set building.

My friend and I are going to set up at the April 13-15 Mt. Clemens show. We'll have stuff priced to move!

Pawn shows are lazy , that's why they're mostly fat guys laying around calling in peeps that know something so they can low ball. At least American Pickers show up to rip you off and the storage slugs are out and about, That said they all suck I watch only when I'm sick and there is a marathon on or something. Comic Book Men are not men but stunted boys that have not evolved from lunching on mommies titty(even Kevin Smith has devolved). Cards or a coin & stamp show would be unbearable unless Spence came in to sell.

Just my take on Pawn shops, high and/or low end.

You'll be lucky to get 30% of the value on anything, regardless of it's real worth.

And if that's the route you need to take, you're probably addicted to something.

And there's a 70% chance you're selling something that doesn't really belong to you.

Finally saw a couple of episodes of this last night. It sure does make the residents of Detroit look creepy at best. I agree that most, if not all of it has to be staged. I have a hard time believing an actual business would operate that way.

On another topic....immediately following the episodes of HP, I got to catch "Wieners Circle", which has to be the strangest show I have ever seen ever and shows just how hard up TV is for programming.
