1956 Topps #31 Hank Aaron - Guess the Winning Bid!

eBay Link

VCP Average on a PSA 7 gray back is currently $269.21. White back is $292.17.

I will start the guessing with $103.00 if the auction survives its entire 7 days.

That card is NOWHERE NEAR a PSA 7. It is missing the entire top border. Looks more like a 5 (MC) to me. That is the equivalent of a PSA 3. The card is around a $50 card - and it has a reserve. So my vote is for RESERVE NOT MET!

PS - It appears the card is graded, but the flip is not shown. Odd. I bet the flip does NOT say PSA 7.

Maybe he'll give it to the first person who corrrectly guesses the grade.
  • I just bid $75, and reserve is not met.

    Current bid is $10.50

My guess is it may actually be graded a 7 MC by PSA-- a weak 7 MC, looks like a seller that wants to keep the qualifier out of the auction...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Are you the seller? I figure somebody from Peru would be a White Sox fan. If so, you should consider scanning your cards (or at least taking pictures of the whole slab).

zero feedback as a seller. Deliberately cropping the flip tells me this seller is a crook looking for an idiot buyer.

There are better '56 Aaron's out there. I wouldn't touch this one.

NO, this means you get a padded envelope and a car if you win. Sweet deal!

    Huh?

I'm definitely not seeing what you are seeing...

image I am not the seller, but I will take this opportunity to prove it by linking to my eBay ID and gratuitously advertising a few vintage graded items ending tomorrow night. Got a few high grade '54 and '64 commons, a Duke Snider, and my favorite from this batch, a '51 Bowman Casey Stengel PSA 7. Each item started with a $.99 starting bid, and the prices are still low.

No need to spam. best advice I can give is stay away from that Aaron card. It is missing the top border, has a reserve, a graded card not showing the flip, etc. Too many hurdles to jump through for what appears to be a problem card.

I don't believe the scan is cropped in such a way to give you a close up of the card but rather it is a deliberate attempt to prevent anyone from seeing the grade it was given. All experienced collectors will obviously pass on this card long before bidding up to the reserve. The seller may be hoping for a new collector checking Beckett pricing or someone buying a gift for a loved one who is a collector.

  • Ah. Agreed
  • Sort of hijacking my own thread, but I do get a laugh out of ridiculous listings and thought others might. Nothing like putting something completely meaningless in the title of the auction and then spending $.50 to buy a subtitle that actually describes the auction.

Funny thing is, with free shipping and looking above average for the grade (JMHO), the starting bid is fairly reasonable. Wonder if he'll get any action on it.

    ChiSox,
Inferred humor generally doesn't fly on these boards, kind of like showing a Will Ferrell movie to a room full of nuns- they just don't get it. For the most part you just have to come out and say "I think this listing is funny, what do you guys think?" Kind of sad but that's the way it is.

  • The seller replied to me and said it is a PSA 7(MC). He is "having trouble uploading pics via moble" so he offered to send me a complete pic via email. I'm still waiting on that. He said the cert # is 04889291. I checked this number and PSA says it doesnt' exist... Maybe he typo'd the number...?

I am not going to bid on it, but for a PSA 7 MC it is not a bad looking card. This picture makes it look better than the picture he posted on the auction.
  • Im going to say its going for about $113
stay above or get found below.
  • Auction Ended

Final sale of $99.99, and it looks like that did meet the reserve. I win, with a guess of $103!

I agree....let's all guess at a card that shows NO SCAN of the flip whatsoever, yet the OP is comparing the pricing to a PSA 7 in VCP. Horrible contest/spamfest.
