Best way to ship a rack pack?

Need some guidance here from the veteran pack sellers. How best to ship a rack pack safely without too much bending/folding? Pics would be great, too. Thanks in advance!

  • Hi cardboard, meet rack pack.

Just sandwich it between two pieces of cardboard and seal it off.
  • I have received them straight and folded and both ways have been fine. Just pack it securely and ship it out.

I'm not a veteran rack pack sellers, but I am a veteran buyer. image

I think the best way is to do as Sean suggested and cut two pieces of cardboard the same size as the rack and tape it up particularly for 70's rack packs which are more adapt to split when they are folded up. The late 70's and 80's rack packs can be folded without worrying about any splitting issues, wrapped in bubblewrap and shipped in one of the USPS Small Flat Rate Boxes as shown in the link below.

I only buy racks 'pre-'80. I prefer to get all rack packs sent -- unfolded-- dependng on where the rack has been kept it may split which really hampers the grade of the rack. Also the racks should be sent wrapped in bubble wrap to prevent it from moving in the box.

It takes only a little extra to do so, and I am always willingt to pay a little extra for it that way.

Too anal? Maybe, but if I am paying $80 per rack or more, I do not wanna chance any spits

When I ship racks, this is how I do it.

I cut cardboard a bit bigger than the rack, 2 pieces. Place the rack between both pieces of cardboard and wrap the cardboard in kitchen cellophane (saran wrap or something similar). Then I apply the tape to the outside. The cellophane holds the cardboard, rack and keeps the tape from touching the pack if it should happen to move. I then wrap that inside bubble wrap, then tape that shut. Then I put the whole lot inside a medium size Priority Mail box (the ones that are 13 x 10 x 3 or there about). I think I was still able to come in around a pound, so the cost with delivery confirmation is still fairly reasonable.

    *Edited to add*

I ship the racks flat, NOT folded. I don't want to bend or fold the rack any more than it already has been. The more it's folded, the weaker it becomes.
