So when I big name star like Manning gets traded or signs with another team....

...is there a big interest for collectors to obtain cards wearing the new teams uniform? IE....will the 2012-13 Football card releases create more interest than in a "normal" year?

I know from watching the market of Favre cards that when he went to the Jets and Vikings that his cards were selling for a premium compared to similar cards from years prior with Green Bay. It looks like his cards have picked up in the last few weeks already. I would say yes there will be greater demand for his cards, but I don't know that there will be greater demand for boxes/case than in a "normal" year.

I think there's a short term surge in cards and jersey sales for a new player and then it's up to the player to sustain the prices. It's a fun/turbulent time for cards because there are new collectors looking for Manning cards (especially in Broncos but some will collect anything) and there will be collectors dumping their Manning stuff because he left Indy.

I don't think Indy fans will start selling off thier Peyton cards just because he signed with Denver. He is still the greatest player in their franchise's history and he left on relatively good terms with the team.

And before someone says it - Unitas never played in Indy.

  • I cant think of the exact quote word for word, but during Mannings "departure speech" one of the last things he said was something to the effect of loving the Colts fans and a refrence to the horse shoe (Colts symbol)

I would LOVE to see a card of him at the presser with the quote at the bottom. A SSP in Topps in 2012 football. They SP'ed the Pujols in a Cardinals uniforn, I think this would be an AWESOME card. Talk about the stupid frenzy of the squirrel, this would dwarf that.
Looking for 1950 Bowman football PSA 7's
