Zero feedback seller with numerous vintage high grade sets tonight

This guy has a number of nice sets up on ebay tonight. Complete sets from the 50's and 60's with PSA 9's and the like.... and zero feedback. So, either he's a crook or he's leaving a lot of money on the table by not consigning. I know I won't be bidding.

I think it might be legit. All the scans are the same and he seems to know his stuff.

    Might be worth the bid.

The language in the one listing I looked at seemed like a true card expert. No story about the attic or deceased family member.

Pay with PayPal and a credit card and go for it.

  • I've been watching some of these sets! He sold a few last week and I was hoping to see some feedback posted so I know he is legit! I have my eye on the '71 set he just listed .... I might email him to and see what he has to say about his sets!

I just think if he is legit, he could have made more money letting someone else sell the sets for him.

He knows the drill, that's for sure. Every set is 'high end', PSA 8 in the title
even though 2 cards out of 128 are PSA 8's! He's been around the block at least once.
    Good for you.

Looks 99.9% good to me but I bet ebay shuts down his other auctions after the first round sell. There is only so much you can sell with (0) feedback. Should have had them all ending on the same day.

-Looks like he did pretty well, feedback is not much of an issue as long as there is no pattern of fraud. Wish I could have gotten that 57 set.

BTW Vintage means "Old"... these are all Topps Era cards...

at least he is getting free advertising now... to make up for those who always think there is a scam going on.

I guess you better notify all of the people on the "Vintage Sportscard Trading" link, because only about 1% of the posts there are for Pre-Topps era cards. I think Vintage for football might be a little later than for baseball anyway.

Is this a case where the new ebay policy is good?

Seller, if he was not legitimate, could not run off with the proceeds.

Vintage means "dating from the past". I think 1950s and 1960s cards certainly qualify.

That definition holds for you and the masturbators on the Net 54 boards. For the rest of the free world, the term 'vintage' when applied to sports cards means (roughly) 'anything printed before 1972'.

Here's a red flag for you: I saw these sets long before this thread popped up and was poking for some info from the guy to see if they were legit. Seemed like they were- he told me he's been collecting for 20 years and didn't want to sell them but now he needs the money, blah blah blah. So I put some bids in, won the '73 set and asked if I can wait until the last two set auctions are done to pay, and also did he have any more sets for sale and maybe we can strike a deal before he lists them. Here's the response:

Thank you for the message. Yes, we can wait until the auction ends and thank you for the bids. At this time we cannot sell any sets out of ebay due to the fact that these are consignment sets from an older lady. To keep records straight we have to sell on ebay.

None of this makes any sense. So now they are not his sets but some old lady's; obviously old ladies love vintage football, so that doesn't set off any red flags. Combine that with the fact that they somehow changed ownership throughout the course of the auction makes me not want to ship him $3700 just to see what happens, even if paypal is likely to hold the funds. The other thing is he told me he had no other ebay id with established feedback and I'm thinking is there's no way he builds these sets in high grade without buying on ebay. There's only so much you can do through card shows and self-subbing. Seems like at least 3 red flags here.

I'm thinking I should swallow the NPB strike on this one. Any thoughts?

In this case, I think swallow it would actually mean send him the money, you should spit.

When I asked what gives, this was his response:

My Mother is the collector for 20 years, she is in a wheel chair and disabled, she asked me to help her sale her collection. She answered your question the other day and I answered your question today. When I said consignment they are not truely a consignment, I but she gave them all to me to sell for her so somewhat of a consignment. She has access the the account obviously because it is her account. I just list and sell and ship for her. Hope this clears it up for you. thanks you for the bids.

There's no way I'm sending this clown $3700, I don't care what protection I think I have through paypal.
